Nostalgic Scents // Marc Jacobs Daisy

Smell is one of the most amazing senses that a human has, and has the ability to transport you to a moment in time, or remind you of someone in a split second. Some scents in my perfume collection make me feel strong, some dainty, some masculine and some sexy. The smell of most Lynx deodorants completely reminds me of boys in high school shooting spit bombs at one another. An unknown cheap male aftershave reminds me of my highschool boyfriend (both quite stinky;p) and the beauty below reminds me of my beautiful mother.
Launched in 2007, Daisy is a watery floral with notes of strawberry, violet leaf and grapefruit (according to Fragrantica here) I am not known for my ability to draw out certain notes from perfumes, so to my nose I smell a light floral fragrance, which on my mothers skin is muskier than it is on mine. In my experience, Marc Jacobs fragrances disappear quite quickly on my skin, but on other members of my family the scent is much stronger and longer lasting. That is, of course, the beauty of sampling fragrance in small sizes/at a fragrance hall or store.
Daisy has been recreated in the form of Daisy Eau So Fresh, a much fruitier and more summery scent, in my opinion. The latest release from Marc Jacobs is Dot, a sweet and tropical scent with the cutest bottle ever! My mum has just purchased this from duty free, and I'm looking forward to sneaking a few spritzes and sharing my thoughts with you here once more.

Some scents are so rich and evocative of certain people, and even though I don't suit this perfume, it holds a dear space in my heart and makes me smile and think of my Mum every time I sniff it. Every person I know has their 'signature' scent, and I love the connection that can be made between a human and a scent.

Do you have a signature scent?
What scents do you associate with the people around you?

*This perfume is from my Mum's collection, and smells great on her. Honesty, always.

  1. This is a beautiful post! My signature scent is Daisy Eau So Fresh by Marc Jacobs. Initially it was the incredible bottle that I fell in love with, but now the scent has drawn me in too!

    1. @Candice thank you so much <3 I love the reincarnations of Daisy, such delicate lovely scents. MJ sure does know how to design a bottle, too!

  2. I love that you can associate this with your mom. Mine hates perfumes and uses only scent-free things.

There's a Marc Jacobs LE Basil spray that came out some years back that I wish desperately to sniff today. I love the scent of basil and find it calming, because I associate it with feeling relaxed and enjoying the process of cooking to feed/provide for my family. I've tried to stick to a "signature" scent but nothing stuck for longer than a year or so.

    1. @Liz Many perfumes give my Mum headaches/migraines so she only really rotates with a few signature scents. She loves Stella MCCartney as well, and I just talked her into buying Dot and some Issey Miyake! I love that you associate basil with providing for family, a very lovely association to have no doubt. Do you have a signature note in fragrances that you lean towards? I must admit I have a few signature scents, in winter I have one and another in Summer.

  3. It's so strange how I smell some patrons at my work wearing a lynx that my ex used to wear and then I immediately hate them lol. My signature scent is Gypsy Water by Byredo. I relatively new discovery for me but better late than never!

    1. @Kimmy I can totally see how you could hate them ;P I buy all of Chris' fragrances so it is easy to steer away from the scents of boys I once new. Chris smells much better than them ;P I've never heard of Gypsy Water, sounds intriguing!

  4. I had to smell this while I was in a store and at first I did not like the scent at all... I sprayed it on to one of those tester papers they have in most perfume stores and I brought it with me during the day and once it settled it really started to have a lovely scent :)
I can´t single out scents from a perfume either... its either floral or fruity to me ;) haha

My signature scent is a body, room and linen spritz from The Body Shop. Its in Pomegranate&Raspberry :) I have used it for many many years :)
Its a very soft and pleasant scent so it suits me perfectly cause I can´t wear really strong scents... it makes me get headaches :(

When it comes to my mums signature scent I honestly do not know the name of the perfume.. its a very strong scent though but it suits her so well :)

    hugs
