Failing a Beauty Challenge

For those who are regular blog readers, you probably see various beauty challenges across a range of different sites. I’m definitely not strong-willed enough to partake in a project pan (I love too many products to rid myself of them!) but the Perfume Purge I undertook before we moved in the house was something that I almost enjoyed.
my initial perfume challenge
Using the same group of perfumes day in and day out was a little bit frustrating, but not having to cart some of these bottles to my new house was well worth the challenge!  I ultimately failed this Perfume Purge as I didn’t manage to get through my Bvlgari Rose Essentielle bottle, but the other four are empty so I’m not too down about the whole situation.
the scents I manage to use up!
I often ponder the idea of beauty bloggers and their obsession with empties (an obsession I share!) and think about the reasoning behind it all. The feeling of adding new products to my collection is often wonderful, but other days I feel weighed down by the amount of my stash that isn’t getting very much love at all. Ultimately I don’t really crave a pared down collection, I definitely don’t fit into the minimalist outlook of life, but a more manageable collection full of great products is definitely something I am aiming for overall.
What are your thoughts on project pans, perfume purges and paring down your collection?
Do you enjoy your collection, or stress a little about how big (or small!) it is?

  1. Congrats on using up the four. :)

Well, you know how I feel about this sort of thing, lol. I think the problem is we change over time and something that we used to love is not the case three years down the road and by then we feel bogged down by old things. Unless we're continually culling or trying to use things up, it's a crazy battle. I have to get better about doing both. I've been trying to finish up some small perfumes as well - have just one empty to compare to your four!

    1. Thanks Liz! I think that I need to get better at giving things away, sometimes I feel bad about it like I am gifting my family rejected items, but I suppose not everything is going to work for me and the products need some love!

  2. I really enjoy reading about projects like this and I LOVE a good project pan. I usually buy things unnecessarily and then they get forgotten about. I'm trying to stop that by limiting my purchases and only buying things I'm going to use immediately! Good job finishing up those perfumes, it feels good to get through things!

    1. I agree Kimberley, they are fascinating to read about aren't they? I am trying to stop purchasing things 'just because' and focus on buying things I will use all of the time, but I'm still a bit silly with new beauty products sometimes. I did have a great feeling of satisfaction when I used up these 4 bottles though, was wonderful and I want to definitely cut down my unloved perfumes/give some away so my collection is only full of scents I adore!

  3. I definitely enjoy getting rid of really old or unloved items particularly body stuff. I have a small perfume stash and I like it like that or it'll look too bulky on the shelf otherwise lol.
I really like Mediterranean by Elizabeth Arden heehee.

    1. I agree Kat, finishing a body product like a body lotion etc is such a great feeling! I have a pretty large perfume stash but tend to rotate them quite often, but I have some in a section of my cupboard and only have a selected few out for daily use, and those I rotate quite a bit. Now that we have the new place I need to find my 'perfume spot' for my daily scents!

  5. Good going girl! I've used various methods to pare down my collection - I achieve the smaller goals but overall? Massive FAIL!!! My collection is bigger than ever ;p

    1. Thanks Vita! you use up things quite often though, so even though your collection is bigger than ever you are still moving through it all ;)

  6. Finishing a perfume is damn impressive, let alone finishing 4!! GOOD JOB!!

Due to a miniature bathroom with minimal storage, I can't have a lot of different products going at once or stash away things I'm interested to try - all my make-up currently fits into an A5-sized soft case so I'm forced to be economical. Boo!

    1. Ha thank you Sabine! I always seem to leave them when they only have a little dribble to go, so it was lovely to boot these out the door before we moved house :)
