I’d often
overlooked Too Faced during my jaunts to Kit Cosmetics and Mecca Maxima, but
something about the Boudoir Eyes palette transfixed me, and begun an obsession
that I fear is snowballing at an alarming rate...
Encased
in a slim and functional pink + gold metal tin, the Boudoir palette is feminine
and pretty much like the rest of the Too Faced line. I tend to prefer these new
slim palettes that they have updated to, as the previous cardboard style was a
bit too bulky and not as cute in my opinion.
In this palette you get some really pretty neutral shades, most being
shimmer/glitter with one matte shade (In
The Buff) which is lovely to blend out and highlight the brow with.
Lap Dance is a shade I find supremely flattering
on the lid as a stand-alone colour, which can be said for many pretty taupe
shades out there. I also adore Voulez-Vous
as a deep purple which isn’t the ‘bright purple’ you tend to see around, but a smoky
and deep aubergine which can be blended out for everyday wear. My favourite from
the palette is probably Garter Belt,
which is the grey I’ve been hunting for since I began collecting makeup. The
hint of brown in it is a bit of somethin’ somethin’ that makes my heart go
BOOM!
Swatched from top to bottom, left to right. |
I’ll be
honest and say the shade names aren’t my cup of tea; I am not a fan of the way
that brands like Nars and Too Faced try to make cosmetics sexy. It is quite
awkward when someone asks you what eyeshadow you have on, and you have to say ‘Fuzzy Handcuffs’ or ‘Lap Dance’…
I do adore the brand aesthetic though, which is why it has fast become my
second favourite Kit Cosmetics brand (first is Mario Badescu, my skin saviour) I immediately make my way to the
Too Faced counter anytime I step near a Myer, so they are definitely doing
something right! I have some more Too Faced posts coming up soon (a clue is
hidden in my last Shopping Edit post!) so keep your eyes peeled for that if you
like.
Too Faced
Boudoir Eyes palette retails for $53.95 AUD from Mecca Maxima and KitCosmetics.
What brand do
you go BANANAS for?
Do you dig sexified cosmetics, or do they make cringe too?!
I'm a giant Too Faced fan - probably because one of their palettes was my first ever "big" makeup purchase haha! I actually like the sexy names... but that's just me ;) haha! xx
ReplyDeleteJasmine, what was the first palette you bought from Too Faced? This was my first, and now I own three (and hope to add more soon!) I think some people are like you and think the sexy names are a good idea, so perhaps I am just a prude hah!
DeleteI still haven't gotten my post up about this palette from when I got it back in April at the Clinique/Mecca Maxima event........ it'll be published eventually haha. Really love the palette as well though!
ReplyDeleteSue, I've had this for so much longer than you and this is my first review of it, so don't stress! Glad to hear you love the palette though, it sure is a beauty
Deletelooks great. I want to try Too faced eye shadows
ReplyDeleteThanks Sue, you should try them out the palettes have some really nice combinations :)
DeleteOhhh, they haven't switched to the tins here yet. Or maybe some have but most are still in the bulky boxes. I love these shades and always have but could never get on board with the horrible packaging. Not sure that I like tins any better though.
ReplyDeleteOnly our new releases are in tins, I don't know if they'll bother changing the permanent line of palettes. I quite like the tins, though I do wish they would close with a better 'click' for security, if you know what I mean? I think they are cute though :)
DeleteI keep thinking about getting this one! I love the colours in it. And I agree-I hate the sexy naming too.
ReplyDeleteTracy it is limited edition here (and perhaps there, too?) so grab it! I love how wearable the shades are, but glad to see you agree re: the 'naughty names' ;P
DeleteI wish I have some Too Faced eyeshadows, they look so pretty!
ReplyDeletexxx Kat @ Katness
Kat they have such great colour combinations, I can't stop buying their palettes!
DeleteThis palette is so beautiful, I love neutral eyeshadows!! I dont own anything from Too Faced but I think the names of the shades are actually quite cute!
ReplyDeleteIt really is so pretty, and lots of nice shades I know I can wear a lot :) I can see where you are coming from, some of the names are pretty funny/cute, but I guess it is because I hate saying 'I'm wearing sugar walls' that I have grown to detest the trend >< haha
DeleteI am the biggest Too Faced fan! This is such a gorgeous palette, I have a few things I love but I am really lusting after the Natural at Night set!
ReplyDeleteThat Natural at Night palette looks so pretty, I'm tempted by all but the matte palette they have, and I'm mainly obsessed with the eye palettes over the face offerings.
DeleteI really like Too Faced and to be honest, Im not as bothered by these names. When it comes to NARS I do think it would be quite strange though to be asked "oh that is a very lovely blush you are wearing, what is it?" and you´d have to answer "Oh... well its Orgasm.. by NARS" ;)
ReplyDeleteA brand that I goes completely bananas for lately has to be The Balm. I LOVE THAT BRAND!!! I love the packaging, the names (they can be a bit sexual.. but also quite funny) and the quality is just insanely good :)
hugs
xx
I'll be honest, at the start I thought the names were cute but as you said about Nars Orgasm, it can be so awkward to have to explain shade names when they are cheeky like this! I have a few things from TheBalm but not sure if I love their eyeshadows, I need to test the longevity of them a little more I think. I love their Mary Lou Manizer, have you tried that one yet?
DeleteWhat a gorgeous palette! Love Too Faced shadows. Also, I've gotta laugh at "Sugar Walls". Wtf...hahaha
ReplyDeleteIt is such a stunner! I know right, Sugar Walls, I was like c'mon now marketing dept, that is just wrong. lmao!
DeleteThose shadow shades look so pretty...the names not so much haha. I agree with you, it's rather awkward having to repeat those shadow names.
ReplyDeleteThey are really pretty colour combinations :)
DeleteGorgeous! There are quite a few of these eyeshadows in the Naked Eye palette too. Urban Decay is a brand I really go nuts for. I can't believe there's nowhere in Australia that sells it!
ReplyDeleteThanks olgiepolgie! I have both of the Naked palettes and find this feels a lot different, even though some of the colour ideas are quite similar!
DeleteI always find myself at the Two Faced counter but i can never decide which palette i like and i always end up leaving empty handed. Especially because i have a lot of similar shades scattered in my stash.
ReplyDeleteI love how girly their packaging is.
Garter Belt had my heart racing.
à la foliee
I was like that for the longest time, and it seems that once you break those floodgates you are doomed to buy them all!
DeleteThe colours are beautiful but the names are a bit gimmicky - me, if I like the colour I don't care if it only has a number instead of a name, or a really descriptive name like 'matte brown'. I'm boring that way ;)
ReplyDeleteI go absolutely bananas for Couleur Caramel, a French brand that has Ecocert certification and really cute cardboard packaging. If you haven't seen their products I highly recommend you take a look!
Ahh see I am the opposite, even if I adore the colour my heart just isn't in it if it doesn't have a name. I need to become friends with my shades I think? You know I've heard whispers about that brand Couleur Caramel but not much detail about it- will have to check it out!
