Pushing into Purple

Do you have one of those colours that you just never reach for? I think green and blue are quite elusive eye shadow shades for most people I know, though personally I love a good navy for my smoky eye and am not afraid of a little pale blue on the eyes if it is anchored down with some eyeliner!

The elusive shade for me? Purple! While I can definitely see the appeal and think that it is a pretty colour, I just find it needs more effort to look good on me than other colours. I have had some success with some lilac and violet shades though, as evidenced by the things I've rounded up to play with here.
The Colour Theory palette in Verry Berry (not a fan of the name...) is really pretty and I'm totally loving that brand at the moment. A shadow duo I am yet to try is the Nars duo in Marie-Galante which I tend to just take out and stare at rather than actually use. I think Taylor Swift Wonderstruck rollerball fell into this image because I am interested in the new scent she has out, I think all of her fragrances are really lovely.

Purple lips totally remind me of Angela from One Skim Mocha Please who I just adore, and my brave lip choice is MAC Sheen Supreme in Asian Flower, which is ultra glossy and a beautiful lilac shade. For a deeper and more wearable purple lip I turn to the Covergirl Jumbo Gloss Balm in 260 Plum Twist*.

I have a lot of fun playing with colours despite them sometimes being a bit daunting - that is what makeup is all about, right?
What colour do you find hard to wear?

  1. I love purple! I find yellow hard to wear, but teaming it with another colour I feel more comfortable in works for me.

    1. I think in the last few years I've actually worn yellow more than purple!! I quite like chartreuse sort of shades, so that would explain it lol. I think mixing in another colour is a great way to try a colour that is hard to wear, I've been popping purple with brown to try and ease my way into it all

  2. When I was high school, I only had this one dark purple Covergirl eyeshadow and wore that. I don't think I wear purple much nowadays either. The Nars Duo looks wonderful!

    1. I only got as far as eyeliner in high school, a tiny bit smudged along my lashline and even then it was rare. I need to wear more purple for sure

  3. I love almost every color haha! I can't wear yellow yet though, but I will find a way to make it work. I wanna see your purple adventures! :)

    1. Work it with another colour, I like to use it as a pop colour on my inner corner sometimes!

  4. I have been wanting to try colour theory after receiving a few emails but haven't seen it while out and about yet!! The palette looks divine! I think green is one of the colours I hardly ever reach for while I love blue or purple.

    1. Have you been checking at Amcal and Guardian? I think those and some other smaller pharmacies are the only ones to stock it - I bought mine at Amcal in Sorrento :) Well worth a look, the stuff is really nice :)

  5. Purple definitely is a colour that I cannot rock on my lips, but on my eyes I am comfortable wearing it ..as it brings out my brown eyes and looks good on my skin tone..

The colour I find difficult wearing is shimmery beige and champagne shades as they look to stark on me :(
Have no luck with them ..

    1. It would definitely look good with brown eyes :) I never thought about beige and champagne being hard to wear, but I struggle with some of them too now that I think of it - most suit my uber pale complexion though, it's generally if they have golden tones that it throws me off

  6. Those purples look so pretty! You better make some courage to try out that NARS duo or else it will be put to waste haha. I've never heard of Color Theory as I'm thinking that's more of Australian cosmetic brand? It's good that at least you venture out into the blues and greens range but I always stick to neutrals and browns. Tis the season to step out of our comfort zones! :)

    1. Such pretty products, I love this photo haha. I will have to make an effort to use my Nars soon then! Colour Theory is a brand new Aussie brand :)

  7. I love wearing purple although probably clashes with my dark hair and pale skin, but I don't really care about that stuff! The NARS duo looks gorgeous! xx

  8. Oh my gosh... that duo from NARS looks DIVINE :O I love the combo :)
For me it is pink, I used to wear pink eye shadows frequently a while back but now I just don´t think it suits me. I look ill ;)
Pink lipsticks is something that I, on the other hand, really love. Pink and red :)
When it comes to nail polish I have a hard time wearing blue nail polish. I don´t know why :)

    1. It's a pretty striking duo, that is for sure :) I wear pink sometimes, generally in October for breast cancer awareness, but I agree that you have to be careful with it.

  9. I'm the same way with purples, but since I got my hair pinked I've been really loving it! It doesn't feel so obvious on my anymore for some reason!

    1. I love hearing how changing your hair colour changes the colour wheel, interesting to hear that you can wear them more now :)

  11. Bah ha ha, I find every colour that is not a neutral / earth tone hard to wear! My idea of going nuts is wearing this pearlescent light green / khaki shade that I've probably only worn 2 or 3 times in my life. I don't own any bright colours - maybe it's because my eyes are a strange hazely colour that changes a bit depending on the light and the weather, so I've always found it much easier to stick with browns and metallic tones! I love your bright eyeshadow FOTDs though - they're inspiring and maybe one day I'll be a little bold and will buy a bright palette ;)

  12. Haha! One of my favourite colours! I don't think a week goes by that I haven't reached for purple! The hardest colours for me to wear - I don't think I'd ever go there - are the acid brights like yellow, or lime green!
