What's In My Muji // Updated Daily Tray

Upon hearing that a Muji store had opened in the new Emporium in the Melbourne CBD, I made it my mission to suss out the place and see what all the fuss was about. I’d heard about Muji most from Anna (Vivianna Does Makeup) and loved the clear and classic makeup storage ideas the store presented. After heading to the luxury bridal expo a few weeks ago (amazing by the way, highly recommend!) I dragged Mumma Bovary over to explore, and ended up picking a simple little storage bit for my everyday makeup garb to replace my ‘daily’ tray which was overflowing.
Some of the compartments aren’t as big as I’d ideally like them to be, but the storage section of the store didn’t look full so perhaps there are better options usually available. The little inserts in the back part slide out if you want to create more room, but I like the way they look when in and find that it creates enough compartments for the daily things I need. Starting from the back I have my Garnier Moisture Match moisturiser and my Napoleon Perdis Primer sample*, which is in there to remind me to trial the new Wayne Goss foundation method.

The compartment next to that holds the two face bases I’ve been using lately which are the Napoleon Perdis Stroke of Genius* and Covergirl Outlast foundation. Next up is my lip compartment, which houses some of the lip products I’m using at the moment but definitely doesn’t fit the whole current round up. The final small compartment holds my eye products like my mascara, liners and eyeshadow base (Too Faced Shadow Insurance is the one I’m using right now)

I have the bulk of my makeup stash in some cheaper metal style storage units next to my desk. They are similar in idea to an Ikea Alex though not as lovely, but for now they are doing me just fine and I’m enjoying having most of my stash filed away neatly, with my Muji atop my desk with a mirror and some everyday perfume beside it. The Muji only cost around $14 which I was happy to pay to give this store a go - I think next time I will pick up some of the containers around $25 which are larger and would fit more of my everyday stuff. If you want to know more about any of the products you see peeking out from the Muji, hit me up in the comments!
How do you store your daily makeup?

  1. Nice! I have to look into something like this soon - I want to clean up my area, too.

    1. I'm constantly needing to clean up my makeup area, I can't seem to keep it all tidy and it's doing my head in.

  2. Really like how you've set it up! I don't have so much make up that I have to have a section for things I want to use on a daily basis. I have just one movable table for my make up although I do have a small basket that I use to put all the products I want to use for the day in and it feels like shopping! I love it!

    1. Thanks - I have so much makeup that I need something small like this to make sure I don't become overwhelmed!

  3. I actually just updated makeup storage with clear acrylic containers as well. We don't have Muji here, but I've seen it in Asia and a lot of bloggers are using it now. I hated to give into the trend, but it's my only option for refusing to upgrade to the Ikea drawer system, lol.

    1. Oh that sounds nice - I think it's just a pretty way of displaying makeup, better than a passing trend lol

  4. I love my containers from Daiso, also the Reject Shop has great prices for things that cost $$ at Howard's Storage.

  5. I don't have an actual "daily makeup" section, as most of my makeup is just stored in its usual area, and if I like a certain look enough then I'll just leave it out on the counter in front of my Original Beauty Box until I either grow sick of the messy looking counter (OCD, cough!) or want to change it up and put it away until the next day's makeup.
That said, I have two small boxes I use for lip products (not including my chubby stick style lip products though, they're in a basket in my dresser drawer) from The Makeup Box Shop Australia and am looking at getting one of The Makeup Box Shops big original deluxe acrylic sets so I can fit all of my eyeshadows and blushes and brow stuff and mascaras there too as they're currently living in a rusty metal contraption.
I cannot wait to one day visit Muji!!
What's the new Wayne Goss foundation method please?
    Epicly long comment, sorrynotsorry.

    1. I take too long to get ready if my things are all filed away - before coffee I'm a walking zombie! Wayne Goss method is primer, loose powder, then foundation, then powder!

  6. Love the setup. I've been meaning to get a stack of MUJI drawers for a while now but couldn't decide how I want to arrange it on my vanity area. I'm thinking of getting them for my jewellery (as blogged by Essiebutton not too long ago). The MUJI acrylic storage containers are much cheaper than Howard Storage World's. Their tissue holder is less than $10 whereas HWS sells theirs almost 3 times the price! :O

    1. Thanks Tine! I think I am going to grab some more random bits from there next time, I figure they can go into my cupboard for stationary and bits if I decide I don't like them for my makeup.

  7. I love this :)
It looks so tidy and lovely :)
I always put the things Im going to use for the day in a little basket because I have a too small desk and I do not have room for anything else on it... well the desk is not really small... It is just that there are too many things on it already :D
    xx
