A Novel Romance – MAC Electric Cool Eyeshadow in Superwatt

I’ve had this little taupe darling since it was first released in 2012, and it has just been rereleased with the MAC A Novel Romance collection (available online now) so I thought it was time to bring it out of my drawers and into the blogging limelight!

The formula of these shadows is really cool to the touch (hence the name I suppose) and they feel like a cream to powder formula. They are a bit bouncy and remind me of the Chanel Illusion D'Ombre shadows (see Epatant here) I’m not the biggest fan of the screw top lid as I think it looks and feels a little cheaper than the standard MAC fare, but the colour is very pretty for a neutral and I can see it being a hit so I don’t mind it so much. I find that it takes a bit of work to apply this with a brush as it struggles to deposit the pigment evenly, so I think a finger application is the easiest way to work this taupe shade over a well-primed lid.

Though I can appreciate the appeal of the Electric Cool range, I have to say that I still prefer the standard MAC powder shadows and would choose those over this product. Not only do the powder shadows make it easy to create a palette, the single flip-top packaging is a great sturdy option for travel and also means you can leave them in your daily makeup bag without a worry. I think that if you took this Electric Cool formula away on a holiday you'd be at risk of breaking the plastic cover - not a deal breaker, but just something to note.

I had a bit of a browse through the new MAC collection online which is centred on the idea of romance novels, and the plum and peach blushes are pretty but nothing that screams out to me. The dark shadow palette actually appealed to me a lot more than I thought it would, but I'm still going to leave it on the shelf and stick to grabbing a few MAC singles when I head overseas in a few months time. I love the look of the large clear top palettes so I might start filling a neutral one of those up - do you have any shade recommendations?

  2. This shade looks gorgeous, and the texture seems interesting although I agree about the convenience of their powder shadows. I have a huge wishlist of those to begin with!

  4. I want to fill up a clear-top palette, too, lol, but it would take me years!

    1. The clear tops are just so pretty - I have a full old style palette and a heap of quads but I want an all-neutral one, I think it would serve me well. Am thinking of those prefilled neutral palettes I've seen from MAC sometimes?

  5. It's pretty pretty! I've never tried this formula from them, but they sound like a bit of a bother. Still, I might have to check it out!

    1. They aren't my fave for formula, nice colours though. Would rather splash on other things from MAC to be honest

  6. Great choice! I love the Electric Cool formula - so bouncy and cute. I had Superwatt but gave it to my sister after realizing I had too many similar shades. I did get a different colour from A Novel Romance though. :)

    2. That black shimmery one - forgot the name. Not the most unique, but I figure it's a good solo to haul around in case I need to amp up the face now and then.

  7. What a lovely shade :)
I have told myself that I do not need any more eye shadows by MAC. I have 21 of them and I do not think I need anymore :D *just you wait, soon I will have more anyway ;)*
I really love the look of this one though but you are right, the packaging of the powder ones are much better :)
