2015 Empties - Second Quarter

Another lacklustre quarter on the empties front unfortunately (see 2015 first quarter here) but I am making headway with a few samples thanks to my #LaidBackSampleProject and I'm making dents in a few makeup pieces too. Hopefully the third quarter will see even more skincare, a few makeup bits and a whole lotta samples via the aforementioned project...I'm currently rounding up a stack of beauty products to give away as I've become even more overwhelmed by my collection in recent weeks, so hopefully the extra breathing space will allow me to focus on half-used products to burn through.
I found the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum foundation basically empty in a drawer, goodness only knows why it hadn't been tossed but it's in the trash now, and I completely used up the Revlon Colorstay Whipped Crème Foundation despite having intentions of finishing up Illamasqua Skin Base first. I think of the three I'd repurchase the Revlon as I like the high coverage, but disappointingly the lid cracked for no reason (it never left my desk!) and it was a pain in that regard. Other highlights include using up my bottle of Benefit So Hooked on Carmella which was sweet and strong, and the Garnier skincare which was fun to try out. I'm glad to see the back of the Hollister Laguna Beach mist which I ended up using as a room spray to get through it!

As always, Original Source is well represented in my empties - I actually accidently tossed a few other bottles of the shower gel that didn't make it to this photo! The British Strawberry Shower Gel was a hit with Mister and the Lime is a household favourite that we always repurchase, but the most surprising hit out of this lot was the Pantene Colour Therapy Conditioner*. I wasn't totally keen on this one as Pantene can be hit and miss for me, but I loved how light but hydrated this kept my long hair and it lasted a really long time, too!

How are you going in regards to using up product?
Any tips for using up makeup and not getting tempted by shiny new/different things?!

  1. I'm only starting to realise how good Revlon foundations are! I have a few in rotation right now and I think I'd repurchase both. My only way of burning through products quickly is focusing on a few at a time and trying not to have too many prods open at once - although I'm not winning that particular battle at the moment!

    1. They are really good, aren't they? I'm trying to focus on a few things but I chop and change so often, I'm not disciplined like you are!

  2. I think the best thing to avoid temptation is not looking in the internet and beauty stores. But for us its really hard to do that :)

    1. I'm tempting by my own collection most of the time, my wishlist is pretty streamlined it's just that I switch around what I use far too often

    1. They are my favourite - I love the Body Shop ones and splurge on them sometimes, but OS is much more friendly for the purse

  4. You've done great!! I'm also trying to use up my half used products. I'm slowly getting there :) It's a nice feeling finishing products and having extra space in your stash.

    1. Thank you for saying that - it can be a slow and steady process, right? Extra space is always a good thing

  5. I need to use up more skincare stuff instead of buying more! Not that I need another foundation but I didn't realise Revlon had a mousse version of Colorstay and that sounds interesting.

    1. Buying skincare is a hard habit to break, isn't it?! I really like this whipped version, it applied really nicely for me and I liked how high in coverage it was. The jar was a bit annoying but it was worth it for me

  7. I am trying to use up any one of my foundations ahaha. I really want to buy Sheer Glow when I do. I love the Elnett hairspray! I didn't like the Garnier cleansing milk though.

    1. Having a foundy reward at the end of it all would be so good, wouldn't it?!

  8. I think you're doing great, Emma! Two used-up foundations in one empties post? That doesn't ever happen to me, I'm really happy if I can use up two foundations within a year! Also, I find fragrance really hard to get through, so finishing a perfume and a body mist seems like a big accomplishment to me :)

    1. Thank you Monika, I appreciate you saying that! I was surprised at how fast I used that Revlon foundation, I really loved it! I feel like I have a better chance of using up more perfume this year than lip products which frustrates me!

  9. I have a Revlon foundation I need to start using it again but I hate their packaging haha! I didn't realise you were sharing your empties in quarters, that's such a good idea! Good luck with all your samples too! I'm looking forward to seeing your results ;)

    1. I just found it a bit overwhelming to do each month, and a quarter seems to fill my empties bag up quite nicely :)

    1. How good is the texture of it? I'm really into fuller coverage bases right now, so good for covering everything up!
