Dot to Dot

Fashion season is upon us, with international shows keeping beauty bloggers busy with new trends in hair, makeup and of course nails. A blog I turn to for trend reports (and just a daily dose of swoon-worthy awesomeness) is ViviannaDoesMakeup, and once again she has her finger on the pulse and recent posts are covering beauty trends from London Fashion Week.

As soon as I clapped eyes on the nail trend she sported in a post earlier in the week, I put down my iPad and set to work recreating the look on my own hands.  A pretty nail trend that even I can manage, this screams class with a neutral base shade and a bit of fun with the metallic accent. I prepped my nails lightly using the funky Aztec Nail Shaper* from Manicare (1.95) I used the upcoming L’Oreal Vernis Color Riche shade in 622 Soft Chinchilla*(5.95) which is an absolutely beautiful grey shot through with mushroom that I find really flattering on the nail. I tried to find a pretty and opaque metallic to dot onto the base on the nail with my splayed out bobby pin, and Australis’ Foil Spoil* (7.95, original review here) fit the bill nicely.

A nice and simple bit of nail art like this makes me feel classic but on trend at the same time. Now I’m off to scour the fashion week blog posts for another hit of inspiration…

8 New Nail Shades from Australis!

Australis recently launched 8 new shades into their nail lacquer line, and thanks to Australis I have them all here for you today! The shades range from muted shades to brights and foil style shades, so there is really something for everyone in this bunch. All of these images are of two coats, some in shade and some in direct sunlight.

Sinfully Sweet looks quite boring in the bottle, to be honest, but after I coated my nails in it my opinion changed. It is really flattering on my hands, and something that I think it perfect for weddings or other important occasions like that. I am now an advocate of this pale milky pink shade, it is a real sweetheart.

Kick the Bucket is an awkwardly named stunner, which is a mushroom toned grey that is very opaque at first coat. I think that this type of polish creates a love/hate reaction in a lot of people, some may see it as murky in a negative way, but I think it's a lovely fresh shade that is flattering on pale skintones like mine. This is exactly the sort of shade Candice adores, and it would look amazing on her!

Rabid Revenge is another surprise, in the bottle it resembled most of my Mum's purple nail polishes (sheer, boring), but once on the nail it takes on a whole new life. Chris couldn't put his finger on the colour, and described it as a "weird grey with cool purple sparkly bits" and I'd say he is pretty accurate. There are a few red-toned shimmers in there with the purple, and I'd say this also leans mushroom as Kick the Bucket does.

Foil Spoil was the shade that made me squeal when I opened the package from Australis, rather than being a straight up silver foil like others that I own, it has warmth within it that takes it to a whole other level. In the bottle it appears to be a burnished metal shade that has hints of bronze, copper and silver within. This is probably my favourite shade from the bunch, it's just so pretty.

Manic Panic is the perfect name for this bright purple shade, which is much more neon in reality than the photos would suggest. I think this would look great under a shatter polish (if you're still into that) or with some nice black or white nail art over the top.

Jellybean is another shade form the new Australis range that my camera refused to show in all its glory! It's super neon rather than the pumpkin toned orange you see here, and I love it. I don't think it will be to everyones liking, but being obsessed with orange means this will get some wear from me this dreary winter. It is also, of course, the perfect shade for lazing about the beach during summer!

You may notice that the swatches for Sky's the Limit are of a different hand than the rest...my future Mother in Law saw this from a mile away and leapt at it! She adores blue and green nail shades (perhaps she was a mermaid in a previous life?) and said that this one was a winner. A bright medium blue, I think this will become a staple in both of our nail repertoires.

Mates Rates doesn't stand out in the bottle against the brighter or more shimmery counterparts from this new Australis collection, and it is only once two coats are applied that you see the true beauty of the shade. A deep forest green laced with fine golden shimmer (but plenty of it!) this would be beautiful on longer nails (and ones with better cuticles!) Lovers of dark nails who like something a little different would do well to pick up Mates Rates.

It was really difficult to choose favourites from this lot as I know I'll wear them all quite a bit, but the stand outs would have to be Foil Spoil for it's easter egg wrapper appearance, and Kick the Bucket for being a solid colour that I think everyone needs in their collection.

Which of these shades are winners for you?

Australis Nail Polishes retail for $7.95 AUD each and are available from Priceline, Target, pharmacies and anywhere else you usually get your Australis from.
