I am totally embracing that cliché 'gold eyes and red lips for Christmas' that seems to be around at this time of the year. I am quite fond of wearing gloss during the hotter seasons so will probably save these traditional lipstick shades for a night out or the cooler evenings when we have festive drinks at our place. Here is what I am showcasing today!

Revlon Lip Butter in Candy Apple
Australis Go Long Longwear Lipstick in Diva*
Lancôme Rouge in Love 163M Dans Ses Bras (In His Arms)* (original post is here)
Lacura Beauty 370
Maybelline 645 Red Revival
BYS Matte Lipstick in Celebrity Status*
The Body Shop Colourglide Shine in 12*
I adore the feeling of the Lancôme Rouge in Love in 163M Dans Ses Bras (In His Arms)* because it applies so smoothly which is a treat when it comes to red lipsticks. The most exciting shade in this line up for me at the moment is The Body Shop Colourglide Shine in 12* but why oh why do pretty glittery and glossy colours like this not have a cute and memorable name to match? Numbers don't work for me, I need to connect with my shades on a personal level, ya feel me? Anyone else feel the same?
swatched in order mentioned above! last shade is the lovely Body Shop 12 ;) |
Do you despise numbered lipstick shades, or does the name of a colour mean little to you?
How do you take care of your lipsticks in the hot weather?

I love lippies (and makeup in general) with good shade names. My favourite lipstick name is Howl from Illamasqua, because it also happens to be the name of a Florence + The Machine song :)
ReplyDeleteOn the flip side, I hate hate hate foundation shades with names. Especially when they call them things like 'Natural' and 'Beige' which a) is just annoying to all the people who don't happen to be a 'natural' shade, and b) is completely non-descriptive. Ranges where you can't even tell whether Ivory is lighter or darker than Light are the worst. I find it much easier in those cases to remember my number.
Also, I've been eyeing off Red Revival for months, and I think I may just have to buy it now! And probably investigate the Rouge in Love range too...
Howl is an awesome name for a lipstick, I totally agree. I hadn't really thought about the foundation naming thing - I prefer numbers, then it is less confusing to repurchase and talk about!
DeleteSome good choices in there! I'm with you on the names though - numbers are so impersonal and a little bit lazy! Lipsticks are my babies and they should all have names :P haha xx
ReplyDeleteThanks love - agreed, so impersonal and makes them less enjoyable. They are totally our little babies!
DeleteLove looking at peoples' collections of reds! :D You have some really great ones.
ReplyDeleteI don't mind numbers so much, but they usually don't stick in my head as easily as names.
thanks Larie - the numbers just drive me nuts ><
DeleteWonderful lipsticks :) Im a sucker for red lips, it comes from my mum cause she has worn red lipsticks for as long as I can remember :)
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, I can´t stand when lipsticks, eye shadows or nail polishes only have a number and not a name. I love products that have names :)
What I do to take care of my lips in hot weather, well it seldom gets hot here in Finland and when it does I usually just use lip balm... now that its winter though I use lip balm as a drug... I feel the panic rise within me if I don´t have a lip balm with me wherever I go :D
xx
red lipsticks look great on you - no wonder you love them ;)
DeleteHahaha, you're right - it does seem like the right thing to do! Now I want to take stock of all my reds, too. :D
ReplyDeleteit just feels so right haha. I would love to see your red lip collection!
