Spice Age

Mumma Bovary has long been raving about the Sally Hansen Miracle Gel formula, and so when Spice Age arrived I took more notice of it than I otherwise would have. The colour is definitely beautiful to look at in the bottle but the chocolate tones aren’t something I’m too comfortable with when it comes to nail colours, I tend to veer towards deep blue tones when it comes to dark shades like this. It wasn’t until I tried it on the nail that the true beauty was revealed though, cliché though that may be!

This is stunning, and something that I definitely recommend using a high shine topcoat with as the gloss factor will definitely ramp up the appeal of this shimmer-laden shade. It’s got that deep set shimmer that I find quite hypnotizing in a nail shade, and I quite like how it appears to be naught more than a warm black from a distance, but intense and complex up close. As much as I enjoyed wearing this shade, I know Mumma Bovary will wear it more frequently and adores the formula, so this is on my desk ready to give to her soon.

This post has reminded me that I really need to collaborate on a post with Mumma Bovary soon – what sort of post would you like to see? Her favourite nail polishes? What’s in her makeup bag? A makeup look for autumn? Let us know!

  2. That is MY kind of colour! Perfect for the colder season too. But you know me, I'm always all-in when it comes to darker shades for my nails. My inner emo talking there :p.

  5. I had a shade like this from Natio back in the Noughties (gulp!) and I used up the entire bottle! I have such an affinity with good shimmery browns and they're so hard to find. I'd love to see what your mum has in her makeup bag - what are the things she can't be without?

    1. Haha love it Vita, I don't think I owned very many polishes at all back in the 90's...am I making myself sound very young? I got asked for ID while buying wine the other day! ha!
I will definitely pop that on our post list, thank you so much for the request:)

  7. This is the kind of nail polish that I would have bought just cause the way it looks in the bottle. Im a huge fan of murky, dark and "ugly" polishes. The fact that it looks that nice on the nails is a huge plus :) Need to see if I can find this :)

    1. Haha I love 'ugly' ones too but this one just seemed so...bland in the bottle? on the shelf it looks a lot darker than my shots here as I put it in full sun for a better look at it, lol

  9. This is a very very gorgeous shade! I swear I've seen something like this from a high end brand. Sally Hansen really has great polishes despite other brands being so popular like OPI, Essie, china glaze...I still will happily buy sally hansen!

    1. I could see Essie having something like this - I have a paler frostier shade that still reminds me of this from them, but it isn't my favourite :) I adore the SH formula over most others also - fun shades, trendy ones, classic ones, better price point (particularly when on sale) and tend to last longer than expensive shades, too!
