Home Sweet Home // essence Winter collection // Photos, Swatches, Review

My love for the affordable German cosmetics brand essence has been well documented on this blog, and with each new collection my love seems to grow. The new Home Sweet Home collection has a distinctively wintery theme to it, which suits the rain and grey skies that Melbourne has been treating us to lately. I prefer cold weather in general, warm knits and boots are my thing and so when I saw the knitted embossing on the powders my heart just soared.

I usually only pick a few select items from a new collection as I have to keep my budget in mind, but the low prices of essence products make it hard to stop at just one or two pieces. The two blushes are so beautiful and are worthy of entering my blush drawer on looks alone, to be honest. I love the orange and hot pink mix of 02 Wool-D You Cuddle Me? but my favourite would have to be the pale pink and deep pink mix of 01 Knits For Chicks.

As with the other essence blushes I have tried in the past, these are a touch more chalky than I would like, but for the price I really don’t mind the formula at all. The colour lasts quite a while on the cheek, though naturally they don’t have the lasting power of a blush powder from the likes of Chanel or Tarte.

Now that I’ve gotten the hang of wearing neutral and brown shadows more often, I decided to pick up the chocolate shade along with the pale pink shadow. I plan on using the pale pink as a soft highlight, which is a tip I picked up from the beautiful Vita. The 3 eyeshadows from this collection are 01 Happy Couching, 02 Light the Fire, Place! and 03 My Home is my Castle.

blushes (individual stripes, then whole pan mixed) // eyeshadows

Though I liked the look of all 4 polishes from this collection, I was selective and really thought about which shade I would cherish the most. Hot Fruit Punch is a raspberry red and the berry twist in it really suits my colouring. I tend to wear these sorts of reds more than the fire engine varieties, so am happy to see more berry polishes coming out in stores.

What do you think of the wintery feel of this collection? What would you most like to see used in a makeup look?

*I personally purchased all of these items. Honesty, always.

    1. @Sarah It is a cute one, right? What did you end up getting from this collection? I find it so hard not to pick up every blush they bring out, for less than $6 I just cannot resist.

  4. Those are pretty! I especially like the polish and the pink/red blush. I'm really glad that Canada is starting to get more of the LE essence collections.

They are my favourite pieces as well, too pretty! I am glad to hear that Canada are getting their act together with the limited edition collections, I have actually seen a pretty blush with a gold overspray that is out there and not here, and I am envious!

    2. I bought two of them, intending to use it for a giveaway or something! Do you want me to send one to you? Is it the Vintage District one?

  5. I was tempted to pick up that pink blush but somehow talked myself out of it (trying to conjure up images of the at least 6 pink blushes I have back at home). The nail polish looks really pretty though - I'm quite into berry shades at the moment for my nails :)

6 pink blushes? I have more than 600 in my mind haha! I can't say no to pretty (and affordable) blushes even though I know I will probably have similar in my collection. Better than collecting something expensive like cars, right? That is what I tell my fiancé anyway ;P I think the berry polish would look lovely on your nails, I need to start taking better care of mine now that I am buying more colours for them.

    2. Well, 6 pink blushes that look exactly like it :p I do like Essence's blushes if the Asian Sensation one is anything to go by. And I'm eagerly awaiting the Pop Art one with the gilded detail in the pan, looks so gorgeous!

    1. Hi there Sharon! This is Target exclusive collection and all stores should be rolling out the collection this week. Priceline still have the Circus Circus collection available, it looks like essence are alternating new releases between each retailer which is nice :)

  10. I am loving that cute pink blush once blended. May have to look into it!

Only just picked up the Essence Circus highlighter in the Priceline sale but am hoping to explore the brand further over coming months.

Do you recommend any Essence mascaras?

  11. Great review, Emma! I thought the blushes were very pretty but decided they probably wouldn't 'pop' too much on me, so I refrained from buying them. Decided against the shadows and polishes as I was pretty sure I had similar shades!

They are very pretty though and I did manage to pick up the two lipsticks, which I do love. :)

  12. I loved the blushes but when I used it I found it very chalky ... The nail polish however! Is awesome good formula and coverage!

  13. Just how cute is that packaging! I love the clever embossing on the powders. The only reason I may not buy these is I'm now counting down 2 months until I head overseas and I need to save some room for that shopping!
