When the rumours spread that Maybelline were launching a new
line full of super bright lipsticks, I was on high alert! I can be quite brave
when it comes to lip colours, and so I ended up picking up a few tubes from the
line to try. Now that I’ve had some time to wear them and figure out which are
my favourites, I thought it time to share some swatches with you!
I dabbled in each section of the colour spectrum with my
choices (all of which I bought from Priceline, some on sale and others full
price)
Pink Pop: a pale blue
based pink, not the easiest shade to wear but one I definitely like having in
my collection.
Vivid Rose: a dark pink with rose undertones, this is one of
my favourite from the line and leaves a great stain when it wears off which is
why I like to wear it to work.
Hot Plum: another favourite, this is bright magenta pink is
unique in my stash, and I love how it manages to be super bright but still
really wearable.
Vibrant Mandarin: I tend to wear orange shades like this
when the weather heats up, so I haven’t shown this too much love yet. I love
adding orange lip colours to my collection, as whenever I try to find ‘the one’
for a day out I struggle – the more the merrier for the orange lip drawer!
Neon Red: this is an orange toned red that I haven’t shown
much love to (I tend to prefer dark berry tones for winter) but it applies
really nicely.
I think this range is definitely worth a swatch, especially
when Maybelline are on special at Priceline as they so often are. If I could
only keep two from the collection Hot Plum + Vivid Rose would have to stay, as
they wear really nicely and leave a nice even stain behind which make them nice
and long wearing. I haven’t found any of these shades to bleed at all and they
are creamy and comfortable to wear and never dry out my lips. I will note that
because they are quite creamy they do leave marks on coffee cups and wear away
if you are eating, but the stain saves the situation and they are easy enough
to reapply. I have always loved the Maybelline Colour Sensational range but wasn't excited by the overly brown toned range, so this was a welcome addition to the Maybelline family for me, and something I think the brand really needed to revitalise their traditional lipstick image!
Maybelline Colour Sensational Lipsticks retail for $16.95 AUD.
Have you a penchant for bright lips?
Have you a penchant for bright lips?
Which of these would you buy?
*I purchased all of these. Honesty, always.
Holy smokes, I never realized they were quite so bright! That's pretty fabulous, actually! Can't wait to see you incorporate them into your FOTDs!
ReplyDelete@Larie Yep, they are mega bright! Very happy with how pigmented they are, brilliant for a drugstore. I will be sure to have a FOTD with them soon :)
DeleteI'm a convert to sheer lip colours ever since the Revlon Lip Butters were released so these are scary to me! They've got such a pretty colour range. I'm so envious that you can pull off orange toned lip colours, I don't think they suit me at all. :( x
ReplyDelete@Michelle I still adore my sheer lip colours as well (yesterdays post a good example!) but sometimes a good bright pop is brilliant in cold weather :) I think orange toned lip products can be hard to flatter, I think the key is to try as many as you can until you find something that makes you look (and feel!) good! I had to do that to work out what sort of reds were best for me, and it was well worth it!
DeleteI love bright lippie! Every time I go to buy these though, Priceline is out! Even when I went to Chemist Warehouse, they were all sold out! Boo! Guess I'll have to wait for all the girls in my local area to get bored of bright lips haha! :P
ReplyDeletexx
@Jasmine Sad to hear that you can't get your hands on them-the displays near me have been pretty well stocked! Have you checked any of the stores in the city, maybe they get more regular deliveries? I think the bright pinks in this collection would really suit you.
DeleteI haven't been to the city in a while, so next time I head in I'll definitely check! And thanks! :D
Deletexx
I love the look of Vivid Rose! I was hoping these would make it to Australia.
ReplyDelete@olgiepolgie It is a pretty amazing shade, you should swatch it!
DeleteI love love love them! A bit tricky for wearing to work, but that hasn't stopped me haha! xx
ReplyDeleteThanks Jelena! I am lucky and can wear brights to work, in fact I was wearing a bright pink lipstick just before the school holidays and I got a heap of compliments from my year 7's on it ;)
DeleteHaha, nice!!! That's really good! I was wondering how strict it was for you! :)
DeleteThese colours look amazing! Xx
ReplyDeletehttp://jasminecara.blogspot.com.au/
@Jasminecara They are all pretty awesome shades :)
DeleteYou are so lucky you can pull off these bright colours!! They're so pigmented!
ReplyDelete@Sarah I think Hot Plum would look amazing on you- the best thing to do if you are scared of bright lips is dab it on for a stained look, before you get brave and rock it hard !
DeleteI just love how bright and summery they are, I personally have one of the reds and pinks but haven't got the chance to wear them yet! Hope you get lots of use of them!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment Sharlynn, I agree they scream summer and sun to me but my favourite time to wear them is when it is grey out-really lifts the spirit, you know? I'd love to hear how you go once you get around to wearing them :)
DeleteThese were a fantastic launch from Maybelline - I really had to control myself to not get more than the already ridiculous number I have. I like Pink Pop but I tried it out last night and oh my goodness it looks crapola on me LOL.
ReplyDelete@sleepandwater Definitely one of their best launches, I remember your posts on them ;P Pink Pop is one of the tricky ones, has to be on the right tone to work really! I often see pale pink lips on blonde girls and wish I could rock it like that, sigh, one can dream right?
Deletewould love to see you in Vibrant Mandarin - it looks like a great shade :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Amy, I'll keep that in mind for another post :)
DeleteOMG they are bright and neony. I like the mandarin and the red one ..
ReplyDeleteSaumya I think Neon Red would be amaaaazing on you!
DeleteI have Vivid Rose and Fuchsia Flash, and I think they're fantastic. Really great staying power and not too drying! I'm glad they're finally in Australia.
ReplyDelete@Sarah I am totally contemplating Fuchsia Flash, such a nice pink! I'm glad they have begun launching some of their exciting stuff, my purse isn't a fan of me choosing to buy so many from each launch though! lol
DeleteI have Vibrant Mandarin and it is a challenge to wear! On the other hand, I love how bright and peppy this line is. :)
ReplyDelete@Liz I find those sorts of shades a bit easier to wear than hot pinks, but lately I've been brave and have worn bright pinks a helluva lot!
DeleteI ADORE these! I have Hot Plum and Vivid Rose and MAN do they last forever on your lips! I want them all too!
ReplyDelete@Tracy I am waiting for a Priceline (drugstore) sale to grab a few more, I wear them often enough to warrant it (talking myself into it there, aren't I?) The lasting power is what makes it so good for me, love it
DeleteI love these :)
ReplyDeleteI own nr 912 Electric Orange and I love wearing it :) I have other orange lipstick but they do not look as good on me as I think that Electric Orange does :)
I have been thinking about buying one or two of the other ones but I can´t decide which ones I want :)
hugs
xx
@shortylegsbeauty ooh that shade sounds lovely, I know there are some overseas that we don't get or that are renamed which is a bit >< I think one of the hot pinks would be ace on you, with your dark hair :)
DeleteLovely swatches :) This range of lippies is so awesome! I'm hooked on them!
ReplyDeleteThank you Nancy, love getting comments from you :) It is such a great lipstick range, so pigmented for so cheap!
DeleteI have Vivid Rose and I adore it xx
ReplyDelete@Coco Vivid Rose is one of the best shades from the line, glad to hear that you adore it too :)
DeleteI love the Vivids! They're so much fun to wear when I want a makeup pick me up!
ReplyDeleteI do agree with you Emma - Vivid Rose and Hot Plum are my picks of the bunch too :)
@Vita A definite pick me up, that is a great way to describe them!
DeleteOh I love these shades! I really hope they'll be out in Italy soon! x
ReplyDelete@Drama Makeup
DeleteThanks for commenting :)
I hope they are released in Italy soon as well, they are beautiful lipsticks :)
Great review, Emma!
ReplyDeleteI've been meaning to review these for ages!
I have hot plum, vivid rose and shocking coral, and I love all three! I actually keep getting stopped by the makeup artists while walking around Myer wearing these, they all want to know what I'm wearing! :)
Thanks Nalini! Shocking Coral is one I am surprised I didn't pick up, as it is one of the prettiest
DeleteCannot for the life of me remember if I bought any...I think I did during the Priceline 1/2 price sale...I think...and I think I got the Hot Plum. OMG..too many lippies to know what I've got! GAH! But Hot Plum and Vivid Rose are definitely my faves!
ReplyDelete@Norlin I am pretty sure you bought some, or almost did, when we shopping at Melbourne Central Priceline once? I know Vita bought some that day! You NEED to wear Hot Plum next time I see you, too pretty!
DeleteLove these damn lippies so much!
ReplyDelete@Angela You, my dear, are one of the bravest lippy lovers I know. Bright/scary is no match for you, I love the way you rock all of them!
DeleteI'm so drawn to bright colours, but at the same time, I know that with my skin tone, if it doesn't match perfectly it looks terrible *has a sad*
ReplyDelete@LabMuffin maybe that just means that when you find a bright to suit your skin tone it is going to feel even better for you!!!
DeleteI got Shocking Coral but I find that it reads way more pink on me. I keep tossing up as to whether I need anymore but I can never make my mind up!
