Project Use It Up #1

There is nothing more inspiring for a beauty blogger than a great beauty 'project' (except maybe a great makeup collection video, amiright?) They often spur me on to use up products, but as I lamented in my recent empties post the amount of actual makeup that left my stash wasn't very impressive in 2014 so I aim to rectify that this year. Using the wonderful Monika from Rocaille Writes as a direct inspiration (particularly these 'make a dent' posts) I've taken it upon myself  to set up a simple challenge...

I will use up these products in 2015 (preferably in the first half of the year!)
Project Use It Up Products as of January 2015

As you can see I'm not silly - I've chosen the products that need to leave my stash, the previous pan hits and the lip products that I really like and can wear often enough to make this challenge a success. Easy to wear lip colours in a mixture of formulas, a great foundation that I know I'll end up repurchasing and powders that aren't as impressive now that I have the likes of Chanel and Hourglass in my life.

The Products:
-Sportsgirl Get Cheeky Shimmer Powder
-Illamasqua Skin Base Foundation
-Smashbox Sheer Gloss in Overexposed*
-Laura Mercier Lip Glace in Sweetheart
-NYX Powder Blush in Peach
-Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Boy
-Clinique Chubby Stick in Whole Lotta Honey*
NYX Powder Blush in Peach

Clinique Whole Lotta Honey & Chanel Boy wound all the way up

Sportsgirl Get Cheeky
I know in theory I could easily toss these products, but the temptation of the thrill I'd get once they are completely used up is far too strong for me to do that. I actually really enjoy using all of these products and would probably repurchase some of them down the line (hence why they have been used so frequently already, I suppose)

I actually forgot to include my mini Nars Laguna and some pans from my Urban Decay Naked palette so I'll have to exclude them from the challenge despite their pans showing. I will be checking in with you as I burn through these to let you know how I go, though I'm not placing stringent rules on myself in regards to not purchasing any other makeup etc. My general plan is to stop buying so many drugstore products that just go to waste and make deliberate and considered choices when it comes to new products entering my collection. A seemingly simple task that I often fail at (though I'm doing well for 2015 thus far!)

Do you have any tips for my first project?
Wish me luck!

*The Smashbox gloss was a PR sample and I won the Clinique Chubby Stick in a Facebook competition on my personal page. Honesty, always.

  1. Goodness, look at that pan on the cheek products! Insane! I'm sure you'll use up all of your denting victims in no time at all - the colors you chose are very wearable for every day and since they're firm favorites, no need to force yourself to reach for these! Thank you for the link love, my dear <3

    1. It's a good effort, isn't it? Love seeing that much pan on a blush. I really feel like I can use up these products in a short time frame, hopefully I am not too distracted by the other pretties in my collection

  2. Good luck, Emma! I know what you mean about the feeling once you finish a makeup product! I'm working through my pressed powders that I have hit pan on several right now! Let's wish each other best luck! Hehe

    1. Thank you for the luck! I just keep thinking of that moment when the pan is completely empty, I know I will be so pleased with myself. good luck to you also!

  3. You can do it! You could make it sort of like the Beauty Diet where you only buy wishlist items, that way you don't have impulse purchases.

    1. I like having the freedom to buy things as I usually do, so a beauty diet wouldn't really work for me. I find that wishlists are great for my spending but often with limited edition things you have to jump before they are gone - I hate missing out sometimes!

  4. Go Emma!!!! Everything looks very wearable so I know you can do it!!! You know me - I love the satisfaction of seeing a completely worn down lipstick stub or an empty powder pan. I'll be with you all the way :))

    1. Thanks Vita! I don't wear lipstick every day so I don't find them as easy to use up as you, but I will try!

  5. Nice project! I've seen it around for a while but I don't feel a need to do one myself! I always use different products on days I wear make up. Hence I'm always rotating products but when it comes to my pressed powder, liquid eyeliner and mascaras I stick the same ones and those finish completely every 2-5 months! Good luck on finishing them up! I love that tray, it is gorgeous!

    1. I rotate my products a lot too but some just hang around for far too long, I want to be able to use my nicest stuff now.

  6. Ooh, good luck Emma! I love challenges like this :) I am also working hard to use up a good handful of makeup products this year, and while I'm not imposing strict rules on myself either in terms of needing to use them up before buying more, I AM being careful not to buy too much until I bring some parts of my collection down a peg or two (namely, looking at lippies). We can DO this! :)

    1. Thank you! I love reading about challenges like this too, glad you agree. I find strict rules with challenges like this don't always work for me so I'm letting myself buy things sometimes, just good stuff and not go crazy with it as I also use up current products. So far this month I've smashed that aspect of the challenge!

  7. My problem with finishing things up is I hit pan on something then it isn't as pretty to look at so I move on to something else in my collection! #beautybloggerproblems Good luck finishing off those products, I'm sure you'll get through them quickly! xx

    1. Oh Angie you are so funny - as soon as I see pan I think they look even better because they are well-loved!

  8. Good Luck! My Whole Lotta Honey's at about the same level. The Chanel Boy lippie looks to be a gorgeous colour. I've sorted through my collection and am working towards finishing some products up too. I'm trying to spend way less this year! x

    1. Glad to find a fellow 'whole lotta honey' lover! I bought the Chanel 'Boy' because it was the most famous shade but it just isn't 'wow' enough for me, and the formula doesn't last very long either. I much prefer the Rouge Coco lipstick I have to be honest...haha!

  9. Good picks you made, Emma - starting a project like this with a brand new blush would more than likely end in failure, lol! I used up a Skin Base - love that foundation. I know you can do it, girl!

    1. Aw thanks - I plan on picking another blush once Peach is used up, perhaps I will go crazy and pick a new blush...haha just kidding!
