Dermalogica Precleanse + an exciting price drop!

Don't get me wrong, I had heard rave reviews about the Dermalogica Precleanse* from fellow beauty bloggers, but for some reason it still slipped under the radar for me. To be honest, Dermalogica in general was a favourite of many I knew, and until the middle of last year I had only really skimmed to surface of their product range. I enjoyed using the Microfoliant*, but it wasn't until the Precleanse met my face that the love affair truly began.

The premise of this is something that some disagree with, but the notion of pre-cleansing truly is something worth trying for yourself. Foundations are now lasting longer, primers are gaining popularity and sunscreen is an everyday necessity, so 'double cleansing' or using a precleanse is an easy way to ensure you are thoroughly cleaning your skin before applyling your serums and moisturisers. I use a dedicated eye makeup remover on my lids and lashes, before using precleanse and my cleanser in the shower. You rub this oil over your (dry) face, add some water to emulsify and work it into the skin before it easily rinses away. I prefer this over other oil-based cleansers I have used, as it leaves my skin happy and clean without drama.

Dermalogica Precleanse is pretty much a citrus scented addiction, as my skin never feels totally clean unless I've used this before my regular cleanser.

Now that the price of Dermalogica products have dropped in Australia, I will be repurchasing a 150ml bottle for $43.35 from Adore Beauty when this one runs out. Shouldn't need to repurchase for quite a while though, as this bottle lasts for ages!

What do you think about the idea of precleansing? A necessity , or just another step in your already-too-long skincare routine?

  1. I've tried a little sample of Dermalogica Precleanse and bought a full bottle shortly after - I really like oil-based cleansers and this is one of the few that doesn't contain mineral oil :)

    1. @Rocaille I agree, they are wonderful at precleansing the face. To be honest I'm not sure if the others I have used are mineral oil based, you've reminded me that it is something I need to look into.

  2. It looks like a massive bottle. I've tried some of those other facial oils and I find them too oily. I'd give this a go though, especially now that the price has dropped.

    1. @olgiepolgie I have been using it for ages now and the bottle is still so full, but it is 250ml so isn't crazy heavy either. Perfect in between fit I think! I found other brands left a film on my face, whereas this leaves it soft without a residue whenever I've been cheeky and used it by itself with no follow up. I highly recommend giving it a go :)

  3. I use the Dermalogical precleanser only at night - well usually at night before I cleanse my face because, yes, make-up wipes and just a cleanser sometimes just doesn't cut it. Love this formula so light, doesn't leave my skin greasy either. Although...the Dermalogica trainer did tell me to place some on damp cotton wool to cleanse the face when I went to their skin bar. So maybe you'd like to try it that way. Save you from using too much too! ;)

    1. @Norlin I only use it at night as well, in the morning Bioderma is as much as I will do in terms of cleansing, I can never be bothered with anything more than that. I think using this on a damp cotton wool would be a little wasteful, wouldn't it? I need to lather/work this into the skin to feel the benefits, so I don't think the cotton pad trick would suit me. I will give it a go though!

  4. Pre-cleansing is definitely a must! I really love balm based cleansers. I've used dermalogica's before and I like it but I get it everywhere!!

    1. @Sophie so glad you agree, I love cleansing oils followed by balm cleansers like Antipode's or Alpha-H.
