What's On My Face // Placement Edition

I began the daunting task of my first rounds of student teaching over a month ago now, and though at first I shook like a leaf and was constantly lost, I am absolutely loving the chance to sink my teeth into what will hopefully be my future career. Since I'm used to wearing bright eye looks to work and university, the change to a teaching position means I've had to evaluate my look. I decided that though my school is quite casual in style I would still tone down my makeup, at least until I get to know the students and they are comfortable around me. I'd rather be known as 'that teacher who helped me with the tricky question' than 'that teacher with the cool eyeshadow!', you know?

My face staples have naturally been lazy morning staples such as Tarte Amazonian Clay blush in Exposed and Australis Curve Ink liner*, but I’ve been throwing a bit of essence Hot Chocolate liner in as well. Chanel Troublant and Stila Glaze are top lip picks, and Chanel makes another appearance with the Pink Explosion JC which lasts all day long on my cheeks.
My default eye look has been a simple one that I trust will last the long work day, and I'm really happy with how it has been working and lasting for me so far. As always, I set a base of MAC Painterly paint pot to give the shadows something to adhere to and to stop them from creasing up as the day goes on. I then go in with my Maybelline Bad to the Bronze Color Tattoo, which creates a nice bronzed chocolate base for my eye. I use my fingers for both of these cream products, and then I head in with a sweet of Maybelline Silken Taupe to ice up the look a wee bit, and just add some interest. It’s quite a strange mix that I stumbled across, but I like the way it makes my eyes pop and is easy to apply.

What makeup look do you turn to for work days? Do you tend to wear neutrals to err on the safe side?

On the Lips // ft. Burberry, Chanel, MAC +

I came across this post on Get Lippie and thought it would be a good idea to share with you the lip colours I've been wearing this past week or so.
Without thinking, this week I have been wearing very autumn/winter appropriate lip colours. Looking at the swatches, I noticed I have been wearing juicier/glossier lip looks, perhaps subconsciously trying to keep my lips hydrated in this moisture-sucking weather. I have mixed up the brands but leant towards mid to high end without realising it. More swatches at the end of the post!

Natural lighting.
I dabble in lip gloss but always come back to lipstick, and these are the chosen ones this week. Natural Compatibles Berry* is probably my second favourite lipstick EVER (second to Viva Glam Cyndi) and I have no idea why I haven't blogged about it before. It makes me feel like I can take on the world, best feeling ever. Chanel's Rouge Coco Shine in Boy  leans quite mauve on me so I find it nice for this sort of weather. I've been wearing this to work quite a bit in an effort to use it up, I just know how great the feeling will be when I finish the first Chanel product I ever bought, and I'm gunning for it!
Taken with flash!
MAC's Plumful is, funnily enough, a plum lipstick which is so flattering on my pale skin. I find it so easy to wear and it makes my lips look so smooth and flake free. The final lipstick I've been reaching for a ton this week is my Burberry Lip Mist in Copper, which was a GWP in this haul. So glossy and even though it is a colour I never would have chosen for myself, I feel like it is a nude shade that really does suit me.
Smashbox's lipgloss in Tease is a raspberry shade that was applied on me during a makeover and as soon as I saw it, I knew I had to make it mine. I bought this mini size and adore the formulation, and this week I wore this over Plumful when we had an early Fathers Day dinner at home. Chanel's Troublant is nothing short of amazing, I cannot fault the shade or formulation as it is out of this world. Review and FOTD is here. The final lip product is the new Sally Hansen Vita-E Lip Soother in Vanilla. The scent is delicious and it is such a juicy formulation, plus the packaging is really cute.
Which shade stands out to you most?
What has been on your lips?

*Sent for consideration, but as I said it is one of my favourites and it is awesome! Honesty, always.

Chanel Troublant // Rouge Allure Extrait de Gloss #68

The new Chanel 2012 Fall collection saw me drooling. I succumbed to only one item, and that is the beautiful plummy brown pink gloss that is Troublant. The packaging has me smiling as well, it is weighty (as you would expect a $50 gloss to be) and sleek black which is sitting pretty in my makeup bag as I type.

This is my first purchase of this formula and I am loving the triangle tapered tip on the doe foot applicator- I despise brush tips with glosses, and was so glad to see this applicator. It applies the gloss evenly and the creamy texture really glides over the lips.

I never thought a pink/brown shade would suit me, but I feel like a million dollars when I wear this. It's plummy enough for winter but I can see myself wearing it all through the year, and it lasts a few hours on me which I love. It fades evenly and leaves a bit of colour behind, and is sticky enough to grip the lips but isn't overly tacky (in my opinion) I am head over heels for this shade and formulation, I think it is definitely worth trying on in store.

Troublant is available at Chanel counters now for $50 AUD for a limited time.
What do you think of this shade?
What is your favourite Chanel product?

this past week

This week I've been rocking OPI From A to Z-urich on my nails, playing matchy-matchy (without realising it!) with my new wine coloured scarf. I'm about to paint my nails with some new Rimmel goodies, Lively Lilac with an accent of Disco Ball! My lips have been rocking Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Boy at work as I'm trying to say sayonara to the shade, but I've also been loving the new Chanel Rouge Allure Extrait De Gloss in Troublant.

I've been spraying Urban Rituelle's Cotton Candy fragrance all week long, my boss and my mother have tried to nick it so far, it's such an addictive scent! I'm excited to be almost at the end of my Rimmel Match Perfection gel-cream foundation and my NYX blush in Peach, I've already arranged the blush replacement but am not letting myself touch it until Peach is all gone! My beauty issue this week has definitely been my flaky forehead, it makes it hard to wear foundation and hydrating masks aren't helping. Does anyone have a solution? And finally, the beauty product that has been giving me butterflies all week is my Kiehls Midnight Recovery eye cream, which is just so lovely I could cry.

Now please, make my day and tell me YOUR 'this past week' in the comments below!
