The Weekend Vibe



Is there anything more delicious than a lazy Sunday morning? I can’t think of anything I enjoy more than a cheeky sleep in, a big (and I mean BIG!) mug of coffee and nothing on the agenda for the day but tidying up the house, watching Catfish with Mister and perhaps a sneaky trip to Masters! Often I’ll roll around on the Sunday bare-faced, but other times I feel like playing around with makeup (or we’re heading out to the local café for breakfast and I need to look alive!) I’ve been really enjoying throwing my new and shiny products in with old staples to simultaneously put a dent in some pans and spice up my routine for the weekend! Here is my weekend face…

 

 

A major trim fringe occurred during the week by the way– still a bit springy but I’m loving the way it frames my face differently than before I had it chopped! So back to the makeup – I’m still working on my bottle of Illamasqua Skin Base (which is part of my Project Use It Up) and I’m getting a bit frustrated that I can’t see how much more I have to go before it’s done, but I’m persisting and teamed it with my forgotten tube of Maybelline SuperStay 24HR Concealer – this stuff really packs a punch when it comes to coverage! For eyes I went with my current go-to team: Maybelline Color Tattoo in Bad to the Bronze + MAC Jaunty + MAC Coquette – long-lasting and a fallback when I’m focusing on the blush colour over all else!

I picked up the Hourglass Ambient Blush Palette when I first hit up Sephora in Las Vegas, and I was so excited about making the purchase that the kind sales assistant opened up each and every palette so that we could select which variation of the marbled blush shades would best suit me (Sephora, I heart you big time) When I landed in Australia I promptly avoided using it as I sometimes get this crazy fear of disappointment - #beautybloggerproblems? It turns out I had nothing to worry about, the quality of this blush formula is insane (see Radiant Magenta in my 2014 Favourites here) and I’m loving the way Incandescent Electra is a glowy and easy to wear orange shade for me.

What's On My Face This Week - Bright Lips and Easy Eyes

I’ve been all about the easy eyes and shocking pink lips lately, and this week I’ve put this look on repeat varying some of the products but keeping the overall look really similar each time. Now that it is beginning to feel like winter in Melbourne (how about that wind!) I’ve reverted back to my love of wearing black to work and nothing pops better against black for me than a bright pink lip!

In these shots I’m wearing my Maybelline Color Bloom in ‘Pink Bloom’ which is a clear balm that turns into a bright pink tint once it hits the lips – it was a gift from a friend who travelled to Bali, but I really hope they are launched worldwide because they are seriously amazing and stain the lips so well! I topped that balm with my Maybelline Colour Elixir in Fuschia Flourish and am still head over heels for that packaging. I've pretty much stuffed all of my bright pink lip products into my Muji to rotate and am still mourning the loss of my Nars Carthage (did I lose you? are you hiding? was it something I did?)

Eyes have been the same shadows all week – I’ve rediscovered my Maybelline Bad to the Bronze Colour Tattoo and am back on the bandwagon. I didn’t realise how many Maybelline products I’ve been using lately – promise this isn’t a sponsored post and I didn’t plan it out! I’ve still been using my Too Faced Shadow Insurance underneath, and then sweeping some Too Faced Soleil from the A La Mode palette through my crease. It’s definitely the most used colour in that palette so far! It’s an easy eye look that takes no time at all in the morning and lasts all day for me, so I can see the trend continuing for the time being.

Cheeks are neutral central right now, in this instalment I’m wearing my new and shiny Dolce and Gabbana The Blush in 25 Caramel which is just as lovely as Jessica said it was! If I’m not wearing this powder I have on the Naughty Nude Revlon blush from the newly released Cheek Boutique – love!

What's On My Face // Placement Edition

 

I began the daunting task of my first rounds of student teaching over a month ago now, and though at first I shook like a leaf and was constantly lost, I am absolutely loving the chance to sink my teeth into what will hopefully be my future career. Since I'm used to wearing bright eye looks to work and university, the change to a teaching position means I've had to evaluate my look. I decided that though my school is quite casual in style I would still tone down my makeup, at least until I get to know the students and they are comfortable around me. I'd rather be known as 'that teacher who helped me with the tricky question' than 'that teacher with the cool eyeshadow!', you know?

 

My face staples have naturally been lazy morning staples such as Tarte Amazonian Clay blush in Exposed and Australis Curve Ink liner*, but I’ve been throwing a bit of essence Hot Chocolate liner in as well. Chanel Troublant and Stila Glaze are top lip picks, and Chanel makes another appearance with the Pink Explosion JC which lasts all day long on my cheeks.

My default eye look has been a simple one that I trust will last the long work day, and I'm really happy with how it has been working and lasting for me so far. As always, I set a base of MAC Painterly paint pot to give the shadows something to adhere to and to stop them from creasing up as the day goes on. I then go in with my Maybelline Bad to the Bronze Color Tattoo, which creates a nice bronzed chocolate base for my eye. I use my fingers for both of these cream products, and then I head in with a sweet of Maybelline Silken Taupe to ice up the look a wee bit, and just add some interest. It’s quite a strange mix that I stumbled across, but I like the way it makes my eyes pop and is easy to apply.

Mary-Kate & Ashley Inspired Makeup Look

 

We all remember the Olsen twins for their role on Full House when they were barely walking, but since then they’ve had a rollercoaster ride adjusting to the life that has become typical for a Hollywood child star. One of their stand out features is their unique sense of style (did someone say bag lady?!) and I am personally a huge fan of the makeup looks they tend to play around with. Today I have recreated a look that is inspired by both young ladies, drawing on the non-smiling nature of their street style and the smudgy bronze makeup they tend to favour.

 

To recreate this look I layered a few coats of Maybelline Colour Tattoo in Bad to the Bronze over my lids, and smudged it quite low underneath my eye. I love the consistency of this shade and how it can be worn sheer or layered and it always looks great. I blended the edges with a fluffy brush and applied a few coats of Face of Australia Impact Curl mascara, and that was it for the eyes!

 

I’m trialling a few new base products at the moment, and for this look I went for the Palmer’s Eventone BB Cream in Fair/Light*. It gave quite a nice finish to the skin, but I went in with my Maybelline SuperStay Concealer as I have a few blemishes and redness in my skin that the BB cream didn’t completely cover. I chose my favourite neutral blush as the Olsen girls tend to veer away from bright cheeks, and the Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Exposed seemed like the kind of shade that would look beautiful on them. I set everything with a light dusting of Face of Australia Loose Powder in Outback Translucent.*

 

 

I originally chose Rimmel Nude Delight lipstick for this look, but once it was applied I remembered why I only ever wear this shade underneath a gloss – by itself it just isn’t flattering on me! Once I threw a bit of Elianto Baby Nude over the top I was really happy with the result, and thought it suited the overall look nicely. 

 

Do you think I captured the bohemian/chic style of Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen? I actually felt beautiful in this look (especially once I cracked a smile!) and have worn a variation of it quite often since I took these photos.
