Mary-Kate & Ashley Inspired Makeup Look

We all remember the Olsen twins for their role on Full House when they were barely walking, but since then they’ve had a rollercoaster ride adjusting to the life that has become typical for a Hollywood child star. One of their stand out features is their unique sense of style (did someone say bag lady?!) and I am personally a huge fan of the makeup looks they tend to play around with. Today I have recreated a look that is inspired by both young ladies, drawing on the non-smiling nature of their street style and the smudgy bronze makeup they tend to favour.

To recreate this look I layered a few coats of Maybelline Colour Tattoo in Bad to the Bronze over my lids, and smudged it quite low underneath my eye. I love the consistency of this shade and how it can be worn sheer or layered and it always looks great. I blended the edges with a fluffy brush and applied a few coats of Face of Australia Impact Curl mascara, and that was it for the eyes!

I’m trialling a few new base products at the moment, and for this look I went for the Palmer’s Eventone BB Cream in Fair/Light*. It gave quite a nice finish to the skin, but I went in with my Maybelline SuperStay Concealer as I have a few blemishes and redness in my skin that the BB cream didn’t completely cover. I chose my favourite neutral blush as the Olsen girls tend to veer away from bright cheeks, and the Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Exposed seemed like the kind of shade that would look beautiful on them. I set everything with a light dusting of Face of Australia Loose Powder in Outback Translucent.*

I originally chose Rimmel Nude Delight lipstick for this look, but once it was applied I remembered why I only ever wear this shade underneath a gloss – by itself it just isn’t flattering on me! Once I threw a bit of Elianto Baby Nude over the top I was really happy with the result, and thought it suited the overall look nicely.

Do you think I captured the bohemian/chic style of Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen? I actually felt beautiful in this look (especially once I cracked a smile!) and have worn a variation of it quite often since I took these photos.

Who are your style icons? I'd love for you to tell me about their style in the comments!

January Beauty Bag

As well as spending the majority of January curled up on the couch watching Once Upon a Time and painting my nails, I have compiled an updated beauty bag. These are some of the products I’ve been using lately, and my plan is to create a new beauty bag each month to rotate through my beauty stash and make sure I’m only keeping the things that work for me.

I’ve been content switching up my lip shade day in and day out, and in heavy rotation are the ones featured here.  MAC Party Parrot is a party starter in every respect, and with the mention of it being relaunched with a new collection, my love for it was reignited. A paler scenario is also tempting me, so I have thrown Rimmel’s Nude Delight and Barry M’s Toffee into the bag as well. Last but not least is a glossy red in the form of Maybelline’s Cranberry Cocktail, which is a beautiful shade but smells awful.

I’ve gone out and repurchased my Lush lip scrub, but this time have chosen Sweet Lips, which has a delicious chocolate scent. I’ve also stepped into the world of Grown Alchemist with their new lipbalm in Watermelon Vanilla*…yes, the best mix of scents for a lip balm, hands down.  A glam touch to my beauty bag is the shimmer infused dry oil from Nuxe*. I usually use the regular Nuxe Dry Oil, but have been loving this for a glow on my legs whenever I throw a dress or bathers on. I’ll admit, this doesn’t get a whole lotta loving when I’m in front of the TV with Ginnifer Goodwin aka Snow White.

Since the temperature is sitting around 37 degrees here (99 farenheit for my international readers!) I have been preferring a glowy, sunkissed look when I have been bothered to make my face up. Into my January beauty bag I’ve thrown one of my favourite highlighters in the form of TheBalm’s Mary-Lou Manizer. Love the smooth champagne glow this gives me, and it needs more love from me. Eyes will hopefully be just as glowy, with L’Oreal’s Infallible in Hourglass Beige as an everyday shade, and Inglot Pearl 423 for a deeper look.

Do you like the concept of a designated beauty bag each month? I find it pushes me to use things I’ve neglected in my collection, and forces me to create new looks with the basics I choose. I’d love to hear something you’ve been using a lot of this month in the comments!

Rimmel FOTD

Lately I've been thinking about love quite a bit, and it has seeped into most facets of my life. I'm talking all sorts of love- family love, boyfriend love, camembert love (and oh what a love that is!) and naturally, cosmetic love. A product that I've fallen in love with is the Rimmel Match Perfection Cream Gel Foundation* which was sent to me a while back from Rimmel. Today I was inspired to paint my face only using products from Rimmel, and this is what eventuated.
My Rimmel FOTD
I scrounged through my makeup drawers to see whether or not I had enough to make an entirely Rimmel based look, and I was happy with what I came up with.
Some of my Rimmel Collection
You should not that there are some major players missing from the above image...where is the bronzer and blush??...
='(
My poor Rimmel bronzer hit the tiles during the week, may he rest in sweet cosmetic heaven. He was the second of his kind to join my makeup family, I'd already used one up once before. Find this to be really natural and affordable, and I will definitely repurchase. The silly little blush was purchased from Target and was wrapped so darn hard that I chipped 4 nails trying to get him out, and ended up giving up. I used NYX Peach as a replacement, it may be considered cheating but I was so frustrated!
Okay, on to zee eyes!
*The Max Volume Flash mascara in Ultra Black. This was my first time using this, and I am impressed!
*Eye Definer eyeliner in Jet Black, not as black as it could be but really nice nevertheless.
*Exaggerate Eye Crayon in Wild Thing was used as a base for my shadows, but I found it quite sheer and hard to work with.
*Colour Rush mono eyeshadow in #130 Tribute and oh she is a stunner. I love this shadow, the pigmentation is grand and the colour is unlike anything else in my collection.
*Colour Rush eyeshadow trio in Dreamy lacked pigmentation in the lower two shades, but I liked the top as a wash over my lid.
*Colour Rush eyeshadow quad in Bold Behaviour  is a gorgeous mix of shades, but for this look I only used the purple shade in the top left corner. I ran it through the crease before layering Tribute over it, which toned down the brightness and changed it quite a bit.

Now for zee lips!

*Moisture Renew lipstick in #700  Nude Delight is my most opaque nude, and I usually use it as a base over pigmented glosses. For this look, I went au natural and layered a pink toned nude over the top instead
*Vinyl Gloss Mirror Shine lipgloss in Snog (at least I think it is, the tag is worn) The smell of this is weird but I've grown to really love it, it's a great gloss. My sister steals this every time I buy it, drives me crazy but makes me smile too.
Not the most flattering shot, but a realistic look at the shades

Really like the look of Tribute smudged on the lower lash line!
A better look at Tribute, and this is pretty much the only shot that shows any hint of purple!
I really like the direction Rimmel seems to be taking with their bright fun cosmetics, and getting the incredible Zooey Deschanel on board was a big win.
I have reviews of the foundation and mascara coming up, but if anything else here has caught your eye please let me know.
What Rimmel goodies have knocked your socks off?

(*The foundation was sent to me from Rimmel but it did not affect my opinion of it in the slightest, I promise. The single shadow was in a GWP if I remember correctly, and the mascara was a bonus for something too. Honesty, always.x)
