Nails & Novels

A not so regular instalment on emmabovarybeauty, nails & novels is the place where I share with you all the book I've been reading, and the colour on my nails. My nails have been bare for a few months now, but I'm beginning to get excited over colour on my fingertips again. Hopefully I'll start to take better care of my fingers and you'll see more of them!
'Amazing Face' by Zoe Foster, and Plum Delicious by Orly
I was uber excited for the release of Zoe Foster's beauty bible, as I have loved every other book she has written, and own them all. This is even better, because it's the beauty babble I share with friends, except funnier and more articulate. I'm taking a dose of this each night to perk up the bad mood I've been in, and the nails I am rocking at the moment are making me smile too!

My local chemist had the mini Orly polishes on sale for $4.99 AUD, and I couldn't pass it up. Sadly the whole range doesn't come in this form, but still a decent selection. This is my second Orly mini, I like them because of the price point and the fact that I never finish up a regular sized bottle anyway. FYI, the minis hold 5.4ml /.18Fl Oz so cheeky me has no problem taking them in my handbag for touch ups if they chip while I'm out.

The shade is Plum Delicious, and I've popped it on top of a murky purple from Elianto (shade name unknown, Chris has taken it to put it away and it has gone AWOL) and on the ring finger of each hand I've put it on top of a Miki mini in a vivid pinky purple shade (again,AWOL) The colour combo's turned out quite similar despite the base shades being miles apart, but I really like the sheen that Plum Delicious has over them. On it's own it's too sheer for my liking, but my it's pretty over the top of another. I'll play around with it some more, and show you what it looks like on top of other varnishes soon.

Nails & Novels

In this instalment of Nails&Novels, I am showcasing the magazines that are stuffed in my handbag at the minute. Novel they are not, but great reads nevertheless.
My all-time favourite magazine is Shop Til You Drop. I am a material girl and this never fails to delight me, I have found a best friend in it's pages. I reread every copy over and over, and they have their own shelve on my bookstand. Grazia, on the other hand, is one I can read within an hour. I love it (especially the beauty pages) but wish the happiness was longer lasting. It is a weekly publication, which is a win! I have a subscription to both of these titles. Cleo is a newcomer to my mag-fam, I won a 6 issue subscription in a Foxtel promotion when Park St. was on. Not something I usually buy as it always has too many sex-themed articles, I've still enjoyed the change. *Edit. The new Grazia is now in my handbag, too. Quick turnover, love it.

The polish I am wearing is NYC's Snazzle. I'm choosing not to upload a picture of it on my nails close-up, as I am embarassed at the state my nails are in. (If anyone has any cuticle+nail solutions floating around, let me know-please!!) Snazzle applied nicely, and I couldn't stop staring at how beautiful and metallic it was. As I am pretty slack with my nails in general, I prefer these $2 polishes as I love the quality and have no regrets wearing them on my nasty nails.A win, of sorts. I picked this polish up from my local chemist, was in a bin with a stack of Ulta3 shades.
What are you wearing at the minute? Are you loving shimmery metallics as much as I am?
And what is YOUR favourite magazine?

nails+novels:Frankenstein + Sportsgirl

Have decided to begin a new feature on emmabovarybeauty, in which I will share with you the nails I am rocking and the novels I am reading. Right now all of the novels will be uni based, but still awesome. Introducing Mary Shelley's Frankenstein and Sportsgirl's Duchess!

Am yet to finish Frankenstein, but am utterly fascinated by the world that Shelley created. To think that by the time she was my age this book was complete amazes me (and makes me feel a bit shit, too) A touching and sad story, it made me feel empathy for Frankenstein's monster and disdain for Frankenstein himself. Am now on a roll with the theme, I watched The Bride of Frankenstein the other night and am planning to rent a few more Frankenstein films. Have you read/seen this? How did you feel about it?

I decided to go with Sportsgirl's Duchess polish because I thought it went nicely with the commercialised view of Frankenstein (being a big green guy with bolts in his neck etc) Application was half decent but now amazing. Wasn't completely rapt in the colour or the brush. Have loved other Sportsgirl polishes before, though, so this review doesn't stand for the whole collection. Retails for $7.95 but I purchased it on sale for $2.95. May be discontinued, but I've seen similar shades by Ulta3 if you're keen to give it a go.
