Anniversary Weekend Away : Curated Travel Skincare

Mister Bovary and I returned last night from a long weekend in the city to celebrate our first wedding anniversary - it's amazing to think it was a whole year ago that I walked down the aisle and celebrated with all of our family, and so funny to think that I've not yet posted any wedding snaps/details here on the blog! I wonder if that is something you would find interesting? But I digress; I wanted to share with you the curated travel skincare I brought along with me for our 3 night stay in Melbourne, as I am quite proud of all of the travel-sized and mini products I saved up for the occasion!
Quite a simplistic routine was on the agenda for a busy weekend of sightseeing, romantic dinners and the like, so I brought along a few bits for makeup removal and the basic staples for everything else.
  • Neutrogena Make-Up Removing Cleansing Towelettes
  • Bioderma Crealine H2O 20ml
  • Bioderma Sebium H2O 10ml
  • Chanel Gentle Biphase Eye Makeup Remover 10ml
  • Bioderma Cotton Rounds
  • Dermalogica Precleanse 30ml
  • Mario Badescu Enzyme Cleansing Gel
  • Bioderma Sebium AKN Purifying Corrective Care
  • Origins Drink-Up Intensive Overnight Mask (decanted into pot)
  • OPI Avojuice Coconut Melon Lotion
I had been squirreling away my baby skincare bits for this trip and another we have mid-November, and it made such a difference to the weight of my overnight bag! Mister was very impressed with my restraint and thought the stash very cute, and I was pleased that I used everything I brought with me bar the Chanel remover (used Bioderma instead!) and the Bioderma Crealine (the 10ml Sebium sachet lasted the whole trip so I didn't need to reach for it) I have another post detailing the makeup I brought along with me forthcoming and I must say I did very well with packing for this weekend away.

How do you fare when it comes to packing for short trips?
What is the most romantic date you've ever been on?

Weekend Makeup Bag

This weekend I’m up in Rye on the Mornington Peninsula, celebrating my sixth anniversary with Mister Bovary. I’m pretty excited that this is the last ‘dating’ anniversary before we get married, and we’ve planned to try some new restaurants and head down to Portsea to walk through the Point Nepean National Park. I’m hoping that it doesn’t rain too much during the day so that we can take Charlie for a nice long walk through the hills too, but we’ll have to play that one by ear.

I tried to stay relatively minimal with my beauty considering we’re only away for two nights, but nice breakfast dates and heading out to dinners gave me excuse enough to bring along some of my beloved pink lip products. I bargained with myself, allowing one blush and one eyeshadow palette along in order to make up for the craziness that is my lip stash. I tried to cut down on heavy items too (even though we’re heading up in the car) so I brought some perfume samples and my new YSL mascara sample to play around with. Some of my skincare is mini sized too but I didn’t snap a picture of that bag. I think I'm just gearing up really early for a honeymoon full of mini-sized products - I'm getting so ahead of myself with lots of wedding things still to plan!

I forgot to include my Rimmel matte BB cream in the photos but I popped it in the skincare bag along with the new La Roche-Posay sunscreen I’m trialling (will be important for our walks!) I thought long and hard about which eyeshadow palette to bring with me and ended up with my Too Faced Natural Eye palette, I haven’t used this one very much at all so this will be a nice way to push myself into it (I definitely won’t be using that horrible glittery shade though! Really glad they reshuffled this palette and took out the dud shade, but sad that I already own the old version…)

Hop on over to Instagram if you want to see snaps of my weekend – I hope you have a wonderful weekend whatever you get up to!

What's In My Makeup Bag // Weekend Away Edition

I spent the Australia day long weekend with my family down in Albury. Not only were we celebrating living in the beautiful country we call home, but we had some pretty big birthday events to mark as well - a 40th and a 5th, to be exact! 22 family members trucked up there to spend some quality time together, and very early on Saturday morning while Mister Bovary swam laps and wallowed in the steam room, I snapped a few pictures of the makeup bag I've been carrying around with me lately!
The Playboy pouch was a birthday present for my 17th, and it only resurfaced while moving house last year. Playboy isn't really my jam, but the camel/tan colour is and the size is great for popping in my handbag.

Maybelline Dream Matte Powder - a serious staple, this has disappeared from some pharmacy stands but still remains at Priceline. Does anyone know what is going on with this product?

Napoleon Perdis powder brush - I have a stack of the NP brushes as Chris' often buys me the sets for my birthday. This brush is freshly washed and is perfect for the aforementioned powder.

Revlon Lash Potion mascara - I wore not a lick of mascara the whole time we were away, but wanted to have this at hand in case we ended up going out for a nice dinner somewhere. We stuck to having BBQ's by the resort pool instead, which was a much more relaxed option.
Perfume samples (Cavalli, Burberry, Estee Lauder and Katy Perry) - These lightweight scent solutions were perfect for travelling with, and though I used my Victoria's Secret Love Spell body mist more often than these, they always stick around in my handbag for a random spritz.

Clinique Chubby Stick in Two-Ton Tomato- I like to keep a nice sheer red on me in case I need to fancy up a look, and at the moment this summer-appropriate red is my pick.

Revlon Super Lustrous Gloss in Pango Peach- The best shade to wear when you can't decide on a lip colour! It makes your lips look deliciously glossy but still very natural, and I think the name of it is super cute too.

Covergirl Jumbo Gloss Balm in Haute Pink Twist*- My mistake was in thinking this was your run of the mill sheer pink lip crayon - that is why it took me so long to trial this press sample after neglecting it for other shades. This is bright but wearable and packs a mean does of pigment without even trying - I am totally in love with this formula, thanks Covergirl!

How many lip shades do you like to tote about with you?
What powder should I try after I finish this Maybelline Dream Matte?

What's In My Makeup Bag

I’ve recently begun to appreciate a well-stocked makeup bag for every day, and so have been using this Lust Have It bag in my very favourite colour to tote around the basics so that I am prepared for whatever is thrown my way. Let’s dive in!

I always keep a mini perfume vial in my makeup bag in case I need to freshen up during the day, and at the moment Oscar de la Renta’s Sargasso* has the top spot. As a side note, I also keep a travel sized Rexona in my handbag, but it is too bulky to fit inside the actual makeup bag, as is my Uriage Thermal Facial Spray*. I also keep a small mirror that was a gift from Chris as well as my essence Return to Paradise blotting papers, to absorb any oil throughout the day.

I don’t always keep my Manicare tweezers* in my makeup bag, but I’m in need of a brow wax and am using these to tame them until I can get there. I also love keeping my YSL Touche Eclat* on me at all times, as I use it to cover any redness or blemishes that pop up throughout the day (I apply with clean fingers, not the brush) and Chris also likes popping a bit of this on if we’re heading out after work, to cover his dark circles. My current powder is the MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in Light, but I have to say that I still prefer my Maybelline Dream Matte powder for both the finish and the oil control. I also keep the blush of the day in my bag (in this case Tarte Exposed) in case I need to top it up before work (I have been working in retail after placement + uni) or want to intensify the colour at all. I keep brushes for each of these powders, alternating them with whatever is clean that morning.

I always like to keep a selection of lip products on me in case my mood changes during the day, or I want to switch out the colour for evening. Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Boy is something I am trying to use up (look out for my Chanel Boy challenge post next week!) and the Kool Aid lip balm is one of the nicest I’ve tried in a long time. I have been loving the new Max Factor Colour Elixir lip crayons (shade pictured is Couture Blush) and my Nars gloss in Oasis. Other lip products include my beloved Carmex balms*, Barry M Toffee lipgloss and Rimmel Apocalips in Celestial.

I love having my essentials with me all the time on long days – how much do you carry around on a daily basis?
What powder are you using at the moment?
Do you carry around as many lip products as I do?

What's In My Makeup Bag - Weekend Edition

Heading away for a top notch weekend with family and friends, and decided to share what I’m taking along with me! Bioderma Crealine H2O* is a no brainer, and this travel sized bottle is perfect for packing away for times like this. I’ll be ‘freshening up’ before the evening events kick off on Friday and Saturday, so having this to give myself a clean canvas to work with is a must. Maybelline’s Dream Matte powder (not pictured, is in my handbag) will be on me at all times, to keep shine at bay and ensure any photos don’t see me appearing as shiny as a new dollar. The new Kiehls Aromatics range in Orange Flower & Lychee is coming with me (lotion & body cleanser*) as I love trying out new scents while staying somewhere new. I have a thing for sheer reds and lip crayons, so naturally a few from each category snuck their way into the makeup bag as well.

The usual skincare suspects are coming along for the weekend, as well as some Laura Mercier loves that I can’t stop using. My Clinique Superbalanced bronzer* is a definite favourite to make me look awake when I’m feeling less than perky (planning on some ciders over the weekend, obviously!) and so will my YSL Le Teint Touche Eclat*. I’ve planned my outfits pretty thoroughly and know what lipsticks will suit the looks, so bright pinks and oranges are a must! I didn’t have enough time to really try on all the shades with the looks, so threw a heap from each category in there to choose from on the day. Serial overpacker, but we’re going up on a big bus with lots of room for luggage so I don’t mind!

If you spot any products you’d like a review of or have any makeup look ideas you want me to try, please drop a comment below and let me know!

Do you have any tips on packing? Do you overpack, underpack, or hit it out of the park every time?

What's in my Makeup Bag // August 2012

A while ago I tweeted that my goal for the day was to find the perfect makeup bag for my handbag, and on my lunch break the next day I ran into this Sugar Baby Hibiscus print darling. It's a great size but quite stiff and hard to get into sometimes, so I will be buying one off Etsy soon to interchange with it, but for now I am a happy camper. I thought it would be a great time to share what I tote along with me every day!
It fits exactly what I need on a day to day basis, but any more than that won't fit without it being cumbersome and hard to close. I've worked out how I like everything to sit in there, and it is quite snug.
As you can see I like to keep a few lip options on hand at all times, and I can't see that changing in the near future.
Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Boy- using this up so I keep it on hand to remind me to use it.
MAC lipstick in Patisserie-a great nude that really works for my skintone.
Urban Rituelle Petit Parfum in Cotton Candy- review of this up this week
Australis Lash Length Extension mascara-I've now switched this out to my new mascara as this was finished, but I loved it.
Natural Compatibles lipstick in Berry- favourite lippy, keep it with me in case I need to feel tough
essence stay with me gloss in Deep Rose-goes with everything and can be worn on top of any of the above lipsticks to switch it up a bit.
Urban Rituelle Lemongrass & Lemon Myrtle hand cream- I love the smell of lemongrass and this is a nice hand cream formulation, I also appreciate the thin packaging which sits nicely in the makeup bag.
Maybelline Dream Matte Powder- my favourite setting powder, I like having this on hand for extra coverage when I touch up during the day.
essence Oil Control Paper- I love the sturdy dispenser that these blotting papers came with in the long discontinued Return to Paradise collection.

What do you carry with you each day?
