The New Moisturisers

The often overlooked but important part of the routine – the moisturisers! Here is what is making up the bulk of my nourishment at the moment. (This post was directly inspired by Tiffany's post over on Will Work for Makeup!)

Suvana Paw Paw & Honey Balm*

This newly packaged all-purpose balm seems to have been reformulated a touch, as the honey seems less overpowering than my old school tube was. I use this on dry patches such as cuticles and dry patches, and use a really thin layer over my lips overnight (too much and the honey sort of burns my throat, but less so than it used to) The new packaging is super cute and something that is perfect for throwing in your handbag on windy days.

Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask

This is such an amazing product, it is perfect for lazy nights where I don’t want to apply a sheet mask and sit up for a while or I can’t be bothered painstakingly rinsing off a messy mask. You apply it as you would a night cream in place of all of your other products after cleansing, and wake up the next morning with bouncy happy skin. It smells incredible and doesn’t leave a residue on pillows so there is seriously no stress involved.

Aveeno Positively Radiant Intensive Night Cream*

I’ve mentioned this previously here and here, and have returned to using it as my night cream as I ponder my beauty cabinet for a new one to try – I’m thinking Olay Regenerist or Kiehl’s Ultra Facial will be next, any thoughts on those? Any other night cream recommendations?

L’Occitane Pivoine Flora Beauty Milk*

This is light and fast-absorbing with a delicate floral scent as the name would suggest. I adore the packaging as I do with much of L’Occitane products, and I find that this does a nice job on balmy nights when I want smooth skin without the weight of body butter.

Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturising Lotion +*

I much prefer this version to the previous formulation, and I had a wonderful time at the Melbourne launch event which was held at the divine Mecca Maxima Highpoint earlier in the year (giant yellow balloons, delectable finger food and a chance for a private shop with a voucher from Mecca along with quality time with beautiful beauty bloggers – yup, it was pretty amazing) This is my dear friend Carly’s favourite lotion, and I like the way it does the job without a fuss and without breaking me out.

Cosmecology Paris // Hydra Skin Hydrating Face Cream

As much as I adore and appreciate the appeal of prestige French skincare, the reality is that I am not always able to indulge in it. I am currently completing my post grad at university, and the pressures of buying a new home and planning a wedding often take a toll on my cosmetic addiction. When I found out that there was an affordable French skincare brand by the name of Cosmecology Paris, I was intrigued.

No outer packaging demonstrates how much the company prides itself on being environmentally aware, and the clear white tubes splashed with colourfully classy ingredient symbols is an attractive addition to my skincare loot. At the Cosmecology Paris launch in South Yarra I had a good sniff of most of the haircare, skincare and bodycare, and I am happy to report that everything smells deliciously fruity and divine!

I have been using the Hydra Skin*  facial moisturiser for quite a long time now and I am about to run out, so I thought it time to sit down and share this product with you. Fruity and nourishing, this aloe + hyaluronic acid filled moisturiser is thicker than a lotion but still sinks in quite fast. I use a pea sized amount each morning and night (though in the PM I use it in conjunction with a serum or facial oil) and though I feel as though it could sink a little deeper, I’m content with how much it moisturises my face. It leaves a slightly shiny finish to the skin, but because I always put it on before bed or under makeup it doesn’t faze me at all.

 

Priced at only $28 for 50ml, this is a good every day skin moisturiser for all skin types that brings a touch of French skincare to your cabinet, without hurting your purse. I would ideally prefer a matte finish, so those with extremely oily skins may want to look to the Cosmecology Paris Mattifying Face Cream instead.

October Empties!

Here are the products I managed to use up in October!

Priceline Re-Balance Wipes x2

My all-time favourites, I am yet to find wipes I like better than these. I look forward to using them, and find them super refreshing and never drying. Will always repurchase.

Derma-Intensive Wipes

These wipes are quite a bit thinner than others I've used, but for $1 from my local supermarket I think they're a great buy:) Good to wipe off swatches or to use if a facial product you use leaves residue behind. Will repurchase.

Batiste Coloured Dry Shampoo for Brunette

I tried these just for kicks, and didn't find them to be much different to the regular Batiste dry shampoo cans! I couldn't detect any difference in colour of the powder, just a lack of scent, so I would suggest just going for the cheaper and nicer smelling regular Batiste varieties. Would not repurchase.

Pantene Night Miracle Leave-In Creme Serum

This product was an absolute joy to use, and I was recently gifted the updated version which I am excited to try! I used this at night in as a treatment between hair cuts, and also found it great to calm any flyaways in the lower lengths of my hair before heading out of a morning. Will repurchase once I finish the new version of this.

L'Oreal Triple Day Active Moisturiser
This is formulated for normal to combination skin, and it worked well for my dry patches and generally dehydrated face. Won't go into detail as this product warrants a full review, which is coming up soon. I'll just say, I adored it. Will repurchase when I find it (already have two back ups, have only ever seen in the Reject $2 shop!)
Avon Vanilla Soft Musk Body Spray
I used this as both a body spray and as a room spray, and found it was great for both purposes. A subtle scent that doesn't smack you in the face, this sits well on clothing as well as in the air.Will repurchase, especially considering I prefer it to the actual vanilla room spray I just purchased from Avon.

Aveeno Skin Relief Body Wash sample*
This was a nice, non-irritating body wash, but didn't provide the amount of lather I like. I also prefer scented shower products,so this would be better suited to someone who isn't fond of strong scents in body washes. I think my sister would love this, she is a big fan of non-irritating body products that are creamy.
Pantene Pro-V Daily Moisture Renewal Conditioner sample*
I generally dislike Pantene shampoo and conditioners as I feel they build up on my roots and lengths and I'm not fond of that. This was no different, and this was put to use as shaving gel rather than conditioner. Would not repurchase, as it does not suit my hair type.
Pure Fiji Coconut Milk Shower Gel- Pineapple Infusion*
I received this in the special ABBW Lust Have It box and my oh my! It is love, I adore the pineapply goodness of this shower gel, and don't mind the coconut version I got in another Lust Have It box either. Its a totally new type of sweet smell to me, and I found it was the most moisturising shower gel I've used to date. Will repurchase, already hanging out for it!

Peachface Full Bloom Moisturiser

peachface is a skincare brand I was immediately attracted to. Their packaging was cheerful, their motto's uplifting, and I thought the name Peachface was the cutest thing in the world! A company that primarily targets teen and tween skin, I found that most of the products sounded right up my alley (though I've left my teen years behind) I was lucky enough to receive two products to trial, and the first I shall review here is the Full Bloom Moisturiser



Full Bloom Moisturiser, Organix Lavender and Rose



Upon opening the jar, I was hit with the most gorgeous scent. I've been loving floral scents lately and this one is no exception- a bit of aromatherapy with my skincare will never go astray! The scent is not overpowering, however, I think it adds a subtle touch of luxury to the product without slapping you in the face with scent.

It must be said here that my skin is quite dry and dehydrated, with dry patches being one of the banes of my existence. This lightweight moisturiser did well to hydrate my skin, but I found that every so often I needed a heavier hit of moisture- I found this paired well with my natural Jojoba oil, and the two worked in harmony to keep the flakies at bay. I assume that this product would work well on normal/combination skin as it is light and non-greasy.

peachface packaging is oh so cute, with female characters adorning the bottles and jars of their products. I generally prefer pump/tube/bottle packaging as I know how jars and tubs can become contaminated with dirty fingers being dipped in, so to combat this issue I used a clean spatula each time I applied this product. I found a little went a long way, and was happy with how easily the moisturiser spread over my face and soaked right in.

A major part of my enjoyment of this moisturiser was the postive affirmations that adorn everything peachface products. I think it's wonderful to have these attached to natural skincare for teens/tweens, as I think that these two factors are needed to pep up girls at an important and often crazy part of their lives.

I think peachface is a brand worth checking out if you have teen children, as it is a great, natural way to teach them to care for their skin. Having said that, I think this range is great for any age- we all need a self esteem boost in the form of natural products!
